Doubt regarding application essays

Hello,

I am currently writing my essays for college application, and there are a few points which I wanted to discuss with you.

Assume I am writing for a science based university. Do you think it will sound pedantic to use scientific terms on an essay about 'things you like'? Will it give the reader a bad or good impression?

E.g.: I have a great passion for studying Physics. The little unnoticeable things that happen in our everyday lives, from dilatation of time to contraction of space, is something that thrills me and makes me willing to contribute to the development of Science.

What do you think? Does it sound overly pedantic (as if I was trying to show off)?

Please have that my initial purpose was not to 'give impressions'. The text actually came out very naturally.

Thank you for your attention so far.

Sincerely,
Sandro Rodrigues

Does the dilation of time happen in our everyday lives?

Yes, in unnoticeable scale.

just remember this: the essay Reader is not looking for evidence that you are intelligent. They are looking for clues to what makes you tick, your distinctiveness, your quirks, and how your you-ness will contribute to the community at X University. They are looking for a CONNECTION.

So, write whatever you want, so long as it makes the essay reader put down the file, smile, and say “I’d love to meet this kid”.

Thank you, Dunnin, great tip.
