His name comes up periodically here. Douglas Brinkley is one of Rice's best-known profs. If you haven't heard him speak, you might want to tune in Sunday morning ... he lived in New Orleans before joining the Rice faculty.

MEET THE PRESS

(NBC, WRC), 10:30 a.m.: Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.); New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu; actor Brad Pitt; actor Wendell Pierce; and Prof. Douglas Brinkley of Rice University, author, "The Great Deluge: Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast."

Ottoline, thank you for posting this alert. I made it a point to watch for Douglas Brinkley.

Glad to hear that, proudparents.

Oh, sorry I missed this thread and Meet the Press. DB is my son’s prof for two classes this semester.

He must be in my son’s class, then – Brinkley’s 20th Century Presidents?

My S really enjoyed a Brinkley class he took some time ago - History of the Cold War, I think. He’s a great lecturer but S says he’s absent a lot because of commitments to cable news shows and things like that.

@BrooklyninOh: I hope he’s not taking both 20th Century Prez and Cold War — there is virtually no difference between those two classes.

never actually took a class with him. Will check this out. Thanks!

haha…yes my son has both 20th cen prez and cold war. Oh well, he should remember the stories if he hears them twice.
