Down to the last two: UW or CU Boulder for EE

Hello Everyone,

I'm a high school senior getting ready to make my final decision for college next year. I will most likely be majoring in Electrical/Computer Engineering, possibly with a medical slant. I need to make my decision by this Monday, and I would love any input/thoughts/opinions you may have... tough choices!

As it stands, here are my options:

University of Colorado at Boulder

Pros:
I fell in love with Boulder--the best college town ever, and I live in Davis :-)
Has a combined 4-year Electrical AND Computer Engineering program
Admitted directly into engineering
Good weather
Seems to have a very good engineering department
Liked the hands-on aspect
Has a wonderful Engineering Honors Program with its own housing--I also fell in love with this

Cons:
Not admitted yet to the Engineering Honors Program, and I won't know until after I register
Seems to have more of a party school reputation than UW--not sure if this is founded or not
When I visited, I LOVED it--I almost wanted to register that day. However, looking at the reviews on **************, 52% of students WOULD NOT return. Obviously, the rating on such a site are skewed towards the negative anyway, but most schools are around 75% WOULD return. 52% against seems abnormally low, and it's scaring me off a bit.
Plenty of tech startups around, but not as many big names as in Seattle.

University of Washington

Pros:
Great city (Seattle) with plenty of tech companies for jobs/internships
Already accepted to honors program, which provides a smaller community
Great engineering department

Cons:
No combined Electrical AND Computer Engineering major--it's either EE or CE. With CE, one can pick a hardware or software track. Any thoughts? Does this matter?
Not sure how hands-on it is--hand-on works well for me
Not admitted directly into engineering; must compete for first year, which probably also means not as much of an engineering focus during the first year.

Right now, I'm leaning towards Boulder, but I'm visiting Washington this Monday to get a better feel for it--and then it's decision time. That night. Woot.

Thoughts, anyone?

Ideas, anyone?

Make sure you find the student reviews on the right websites. I looked at one website that bashed all my schools and freaked me out! The best website I have found is **************.com it’s awesome!

I don’t know anything at all about Univ of Washington, but my brother is a junior at Boulder. He absolutely loves it. He came home the summer after freshmen year, and all summers since he has decided to stay and live up there. Boulder is filled with laid-back and accepting people. It is great for outdoorsy people too! My brother often goes and studies in the mountains along a hiking trail. As far as parties…I’m not sure, my brother parties a good amount there, but he was also a big partier in highschool. The school however has a great reputation and he realllly has to work to get good grades!
Best of luck!

I don’t know why it edited out the website but it’s College P r o w l e r

I would to go U-Dub -access to Seattle tech industry and most students change majors anyhow or focus on one area.

Is there a difference in cost and does that matter to your family?

There isn’t a major difference in cost–Boulder gave me a $20,000 scholarship, and that brings its cost down to about the same as the slightly-less-expensive Washington tuition. The major factor at this point is which is the best fit. I’m pretty set on majoring in some kind of engineering-related field, and I’m having a very hard time deciding whether the seemingly higher-quality engineering department at Washington justifies the stress of having to compete for a 3.5+ during my freshman year to get in to a (possibly more restrictive) engineering program.

bumppppppppppppppppp
