I recently heard that in some colleges, the network system prohibits the donwload of anime, music, movies etc.(anything that's P2P or BitTorrent).

Is this true in NYU?

Also, if its possible to download these stuff, how widespread is it?

nyu's network probably has certain ports blocked. P2P and torrent are a concern and the riaa and mpaa are all over that ****. Newsgroups, IRC, and FTP arent as widespread as the other two lame-o's. If you download through IRC you can just say you didnt know about it and they will think your computer got hacked and you were turned into an xdcc bot. either way, the IT dept will at least warn you before they cut off your internet. If you have a router or switch in your dorm and want to send something to a friend and have your own private network, you can do that. i plan on taking my wireless router so i can transfer things between my htpc and my powerbook.

YAY. thats good that NYU doesnt really restrict the access. I would die if I cant download anime or music. (i heard from my friend that anime downloading is still legal so....)

mattistotle-do u actually download often or is this just based on ur peers?
