Downloading Music

Will I get caught for downloading music off of Limewire?

PSU claims they don’t monitor the actual content involved in your internet usage, they only measure/monitor the amount of your usage, so on the surface it seems unlikely. However, as far as I can see, you’ll have two issues to consider:

(I’m assuming you’ll be living on-campus and thus using a PSU internet connection)

Bandwidth: you have a weekly bandwidth limit. They just increased it, and most students don’t come anywhere near reaching it. However, according to the PSU Recscom site, music sharing sites can cause you to use lots of bandwidth because other users who connect to your computer to copy your music (if you allow this) will count against your bandwidth limit. However, there’s a way for you to check online to see how much bandwidth you’re using, so you should be able to keep an eye on this before you go over the limit.

Virus/security issues: this is probably the one you need to be more worried about, since the music sites are notorious for security issues. If your computer gets a virus/bot/whatever, your internet connection will be cut off. You will then need to take your computer to Rescom and have them reformat it before they will allow you to connect again. It’s a big hassle and one you want to avoid if at all possible.

i dont like limewire, i use www.zippysharemp3.com to download music, mostly rap and dance music for me

you dont have to download a program, just grab songs from the internet, just letting you know :)
