In this thread we campaign for the word "Doyen" to replace the word "Senior Member" under our usernames.

why? and now im just typing something so i have more than 10 characters.

Presumably because mj93 doesn't like that in many contexts, "senior" means "old."

But doyen also means "elder."

Yes, the denotations are very similar but I think it may be more a matter of the connotations associated with each word.

I think "senior member" should be replaced with "Ha ha look, I have more post than you!"

but that's just me...:)

Actually, doyen is masculine and doyenne is feminine, so you would have to have two different designations. CC is nothing if not grammatically and linguistically precise!

Sorry... but no.

That's just silly.

speaking of which, how do you become a moderator on cc? Do you have to be like, appointed by the man upstairs or something?

Wait, God created CC?

i would also like to know how the rise to moderator happens. tokenadult, weren't you a senior member before you became a super moderator?

The current members of the moderation team from time to time advise management on whom to nominate to be new moderators. Some very helpful participants here like to be just plain helpful participants and don't accept the nominations, but once in a while a new moderator comes on board. There is no particular membership level a person has to reach before becoming a moderator.

One moderator joked, in a thread quite a while ago, that we believe CC was intelligently designed but that it has evolved over time.

how many posts do you need to become a senior member?

^ i think it's 1,000. isn't it? i told myself i was going to get there during winter break, but as i always do, i put it off until some other time.

^^^ That's the story of my life...

I'm posting now to see if what kind of member I am.

You are a junior member, in case you didn't notice...
