Draft Strategic Plan

A new dining hall, the creation of an Institute for Liberal Arts in the 21st Century and increasing faculty diversity are included in a draft released for comment by the Strategic Planning Council on Tuesday.

I haven’t made it through the whole thing yet, but the “think tank” for liberal arts is a very interesting idea.

Looks like the three major building projects they have in mind are:

a) New Engineering building

b) New dining hall

c) Converting Sharples dining hall into a student center/activities space

I went to the parlor party this evening. They printed out the draft on big sheets of paper, taped to the walls of Shane Lounge. We could write comments on the draft while eating bread and hummus and discussing Swarthmore’s future. There weren’t any official people at the party, but it felt good to say some things that I felt were important to me.
