Drama programs

Recommendations for good summer programs specializing in drama/theater?

Where are you located? Are you looking for overnight options or day? Carnegie Mellon has a very good large program for both MT and straight acting. Brown also has a good program, Cleveland Conservatory has shorter options. Stella Adler is great in the city, but it is a day program (no dorms).

The top performing arts camps I know of are Frenchwoods, Stagedoor and Interlochen. There are many others, U Michigan I believe have one, but I don’t know much about that one, and I am sure some of the California schools do too (a friend’s daughter just got into USCs summer program). You should look into it soon as some have complicated applications (CMUs was like a college application, with transcripts and essays, etc, Stella Adler is a monologue audition). I should also mention that pretty much all these options are very expensive and few give much in the way of tuition assistance as they are big money-making machines (IMHO) so if that is a big issue, I would look for local summer theater programs. There are many many options where I live in New Jersey, so if you live in northern NJ, let me know and I can add some local options for you.

@Momw3boys I’m located in the Seattle area and am looking for a residential program and also one that could offer financial aid. Thanks for the info

Sorry for delay in responding, I was out of town. Most of the summer programs I mentioned don’t offer much in the way of financial aid, but please do reach out to any program to see what their options are. I am sure there are many more options on the west coast but I am less familiar with them. Interlochen is in Michigan so a little closer to you.
Look at your closest top university drama programs, many will have summer high school pre-college programs. Good luck!
