Does anyone know how the Drama (Acting) program at CCM compares that that at USC? Is one was more highly regarded than the other? How do the programs differ? How many students apply/are accepted? Thanks for any info.

I don't know a thing about USC, but the CCM Drama program is very attractive: Wonderful facilities located on a pretty part of campus, small program (15 acting students), and a packed curriculum which offers a look at a variety of acting techniques. Students report that they work during the summers, often in the city and sometimes farther afield. Students also perform on stage beginning in their sophomore year, and often perform in the community or do print or voice-over work. Unlike the MT program at CCM, the dramatic performance program is not a CUT program.

I do not have the "Numbers" right now, but as I remember, the ratio of those accepted to those who applied is more favorable than many acting programs. Students are, however, recruited from high school thespian competitions around the country, and I don't know how those are factored in the equation. Students admitted to the CCM program are from around the country.

My S will be attending CCM beginning in the Fall, so we will have more info as the year progresses. If you'd like, PM me, and I will connect you to my S who has more information on why he chose CCM.

A girl from our town is going to USC. She has been in LA for a while and has a couple of made-for-tv film credits. I think she plans to pursue film acting and not MT, although she sings, too.

Unfortunately, that is not a true statement. As a matter of fact, I believe drama cuts more than MT does these days.

As for comparing programs - the odds of someone having enough first hand knowledge to do that are slim. Instead, try to find out more about each program, then do the comparisons yourself, based on what's important to you.

^^^I also was going to question this statement about the drama program at CCM not employing cuts. I know that the acting and MT programs at CCM are separate and administered separately. And I don't have first hand information about cuts in the drama program there. However, I know a girl who was in the drama program at CCM (acting) who has since graduated. I recall several years ago (guessing about four years or so), I was talking to her about CCM (which she liked and was a current student at that point) and she did indeed say that they had cuts and she knew kids who were cut. I truly believe she was talking of the acting program (since that was what she was in herself) but it was a while ago and there is a chance she was referring to the MT program but I got the impression that she had to go through the reviews that resulted in cuts of some of her classmates in the ACTING program.

Does anyone have any insight on the current “retention evaluation” at CCM for acting?
