Please share any dramatic class ranking improvements that you have experienced in this thread :)

So after my first semester of freshman year, my class ranking was pretty far from good--141/740, barely top 20%. I just got my class ranking for the first and second semester of freshman year combined, and now I'm at 60/700! Top 9%, so I am now eligible for automatic admissions at some state schools. I know that it's still not valedictorian or whatever, but I'm just happy that I jumped 81 spots instead of the predicted 40, and the hoped 50.

This past year, I was a freshman. After 1st tri, my rank was around 145. After 2nd tri, I moved up to 64, which was the top 14%, then after school ended, I moved up to 61,which is the top 13% (I know the last one isn’t much).

It’s really really really hard once you get near the top 10. At most you’ll see one unweighted class (we get 16 non-mini classes a year and they’re taking a graduation requirement), a ton of APs and quite a few non-GPA affecting classes.
I finished freshman year in the 60s or so–thank my 4 B’s in English.
Entering Senior year: 24/700. Halfway through: 14. The end: 13 with a total of 11 B’s in English–quite sad!.
This is with maximum AP classes, and they don’t really boost your GPA in the end that much anyways as well as everybody near almost maxing too (but they load with non-graded ones instead).

I know this isn’t a story of my changes but is there any way you guys recommend that I make my rank jump like that^^^? I’m 124/560 and that’s for the first semester of freshmen year only(it’s shameful)… And also I had medical issues that caused my grades to drop significantly during the second semester so I expect my rank to fall around the 200+ zone…(they only release our ranks once a year, after the first semester) It’s only freshmen year, but like if I made like amazing grades for the next 3 years would it be possible for me to get back to my original 124 or even better?

in my school its very different. As a class of only 70 students, theres at least 3-4 students with a 4.0 UW gpa so the weight bonus really kicks in. Theres also a BUNCH with only 1 or 2 B‘s so theres a vast number of people around 3.8 and 3.9. Me and my friend both have been taking the same number AP‘s and the most in the grade by far and we are managing 4.0s UW. Its basically a race now between us two for the valedictorian position. We‘ve been taking 7 AP‘s including Junior year while the next in-line has 4.

My first rank after first semester of freshman year was 235/800 so I was in the top 29%. After second semester, I moved to 166/800 making me in the top 20%.

After the first semester of sophomore year, I became 111/750 and I was in the top 15%. After the second semester, I was 85/720.

Junior year first semester I was 71/720 and I was finally in the top ten percent. At the end of the year, I became 56/734 which is what I am right now.

I’m hoping I’ll be 30 by the time I apply to college!

It took a lot of hard work but it’s possible!

My rank could’ve jumped much more if I did better in math. I got straight A’s after freshman year but I got C’s in mtg every semester. I’d probably be in the top 30 by now.

I’m not surprised at my improvement - my class rank was low first two years because I took Honors courses and math classes 2 levels above most of my peers. However, none of them were weighted so students in easier classes were able to beat me. My school doesn’t offer any weighted courses to underclassmen. Junior year I took 3 weighted courses and was able to beat all the students that were ahead of my by getting a 4.0 in 4 on-level core classes and 4 easy electives. I’m really hoping I gain two more spots first semester of senior year so I can graduate in the top 10%! Second semester GPA is not included in graduation for some reason.

Also, what the hell kind of state ranks every student…? Seems dumb considering how much weighted GPA and whatnot can vary between schools, unless they have some kind of universal standard a la California, et al.

I’m pretty sure I jumped maybe 5-10% my senior year, but my school decided to be lazy and stop calculating class rank after the end of junior year. I rocked my senior year while almost everyone around me…didn’t.

@dancegrl , in our state all the 10th,11th and 12th grade exams are conducted by the state boards i.e.by the state only…And here we have percentage system …
Moreover the state board doesn’t gives rank,it actually gives us percentile rank…
My percentile rank is 95.84 so that means that 95.84% of people are behind me…
