English 29
Math 32
Science 23
Reading 23
I was wondering if anyone has had expierence with drastic score improvements and what they were.

define drastic....is 3pts up drastic...or are you looking for even more of a jump than that?

Did your score jump anywhere from 3 + raw points

i took it last october(?)ish (first time) and got a 27 composite.
29 Math
26 Reading
26 Writing
27 Science
Needless to say i wasnt very happy.

I took it again this april with minimal preparation because i completely forgot i signed up for it until my mom reminded me. apparently that helped because i got a 32 composite this time.
Math 32
Reading 31
Writing 33
Science 33

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

nice....how'd you improve that science from a 27 to a 33?

well before i never really had a strategy for taking the act, but after coming to these boards and reading strategies for each section, especially science, i was much better prepared for the sections and the time limits (if those time limits were extended about 15-20 mins each man that would make a HUGE difference in scores :().

yes! i went from a 26 to a 31.

my highest change in subscore was reading: from a 24 to a 32.

i used the real act and kaplan! they really help!

I was just wondering if anyone has tried the McGraw Hill's ACT book with like 8 practice tests?? If so, how accurate were they?

I heard someone go from 19 to 32 before. I am hoping to go from 22 to 30 or so.

Yeah, I am hoping for a jump. I want to get my 32 to a 35.

Patrickk: How did that person go from a 19 to a 32? My Son was the one that scored so low on his first ACT test. He will be retaking it in June. The people at ACT did approve him for extended time. He has been working quite hard on the practice test, but still having a bit of trouble with the reading section. Anyway, just curious on what this peron did to have such a drastic increase on the score. Thanks in advance....

Hello,
I am not actually sure, I was told that it happened. Just believe it, it is definitely possible. Have confidence.

my friend went from a 20-29.

Alot of people get extremely nervous during their first test.

^ I know I definatly did! I'm hoping for a 30 on the June test. I only got a 27 my first time in April.

Eng - 29
Math - 23! (Ugh)
Reading - 29
Science- 26

Looking for a:
(These are what I typically got on prac. tests)
Eng - 32
Math - 26-28
Reading - 29
Science - 31

Also, as far as big jumps go, a friend of mine at school went from a 18 to a 29. He really just took it a bunch of times. A whole bunch. Lol.

I took it on the 8th of April and got a 25 and then took it state testing on the 26th of April and scored a 28.

Subsection score differences (first/second)
English 24-30
Math 25-30
Reading 28-29
Science 22-22

My English and Math really jumped up and I have no idea why really. My Science was bad though. I'd like that up around 27 or higher.

I had a five point jump between freshman year and junior year.

Composite 29 ---> 34
Reading 34 ----> 35
English 32 ---->35
Math 22 ----> 30
Science 30 ----> 36

um, i got a 21 my first time in 7th grade, and my last test was a 34. But as far as one year goes, a 4 point increase is definitely reasonable.

How about a one point increase? 35 to 36. I got a composite 35 on the state administered one, and this was totally cold, plus i didn't really care since I got a 2240 on the SAT. But I was happy and surprised by the 35, but then part of me wants to 36 it.

I was talking to a counselor yesterday and he said that if someone makes more than a 4 point jump that the ACT makes them retake them because it becomes suspicious of cheating. Statistically, people improve 3-4 points but if you make a higher jump, you are asked to retake it. After that, if you score lower when you retake it, they cancel out your previous higher score. I got a 27:
English - 27
Math- 27
Reading- 29
Science- 25

I reallllly hope I can jump higher because my gpa isn't all that great...but I dunno. I'll see what happens.

zebra: What you say is only partly true. If your score goes up more than a certain amount when you test more than once (it may be 4 points, I'm not sure), ACT investigates it. This investigation does not delay your score reports. The vast majority of such cases are dismissed for various reasons: a long period of time between testing, a lot of items left blank on the first test, a GPA that supports a higher score, etc. You wouldn't even know that your score was scrutinized in that case. If the score still looks suspicious, they send you a letter asking you to explain your score increase or retest to confirm your scores. Maybe you took some test prep classes or got some tutoring. Maybe you were sick the first time. If you can't explain the increase to their satisfaction, they will give you the opportunity to retest in a controlled setting. If your retest score is within some number of points of the suspect score (it can still be lower), you get to keep both scores. If not, they cancel the suspect score.
