Dream school... Chances?

So I visited campus today and fell IN LOVE with basically everything about Brown. I know it’d be a very high reach but I just wanted to hear some opinions from others about my chances :)

I’m a junior from MA and attend a highly-ranked public high school.
Class Rigor: All honors classes freshmen year (highest level offered)
Sophomore: AP Euro AP Biology and the rest honors (highest level offered)
Junior: AP Chem, APUSH, AP Language and Comp and the rest honors (again, highest offered)
Senior year I’ll be taking 4-5 AP’s, I haven’t decided what yet!

Scores: 5 on AP Bio and 4 on AP Euro. 710 on Bio SAT subject test

GPA: weighted: 4.2 UW: 3.7 < not 100% sure. My high school doesn’t calculate them so I did myself. Hopefully this will go up!

ACT: 30 (i know this is rather low for here, but I plan on retaking and hopefully raising!)

EC’s

Violin: School Orchestra since 5th Grade. I’ve been first chair throughout.
NEC youth orchestra: I’ve done this the past 3 years, very competitive orchestra
private lessons for the past 8 years.

Piano: Kindergarten- present.

Guitar: I’ve played for over 5 years but I don’t take lessons, I teach myself.

Tennis: School tennis team JV in 9th and 10th grade, Varsity in 11th grade.

Field Hockey: Freshmen and Sophomore year on JV

Clubs: I’ve peer tutored since middle school. Microfinance Club, SADD, Peer Leaders, UNITE Leadership, Math club, NHS

Leadership: I’m on student council, Secretary of Microfinance and NHS president. UNITE is a leadership club we had to apply to be a part of.

Volunteering: I volunteer at a hospital once a week for 4 hours. Over 200 hours thus far. I love it and want to pursue medicine!

Work: I work at a tutoring center year round (except for the spring during tennis) and scoop ice cream over the summer! I teach tennis to little kids during the summer too  and babysit!

I know it’s kinda a long shot for me, but I really want to focus on writing stellar essays to improve my chances! Thanks in advance for responses :)

Oh yeah, I plan on concentrating in Biology and applying ED!

Oh yeah, as for awards… I’ve won the music department award at my school every year. As well as the Peter J. Baltren award at this leadership conference I went to.

Oh and another random tid bit, I plan on sending an arts supplement for violin :)

bump! I’d really like some insight please! and you can be brutally honest…haha

As far as test scores, I think you can do better. [But you still have a chance because I know a girl who got in with a 29 last year. (But she alotta EC to make up for it.)] Your eclectic musical resume is very impressive. Try tie it to your essay!

I definitely think you can push up your chances with a stellar essay.
You have excellent ECs and passable stats so I’d say, you have a 60% of admission.
(you can increase it up to 80% with a good essay)
Well, I wish you the best of luck.

Thank you thank you thank you  that 60% is making me feel loads better! I want to write about music but i also want it to be super unique! so i guess I have a lot of thinking to do on that, Haha.

No probelm! And wait, you’re applying under early decision?

^Yep! ED for sure. I know I have absolutely no chance whatsoever at PLME, but I thought of applying just for kicks. Hey, maybe they’d feel bad rejecting me from both and be more inclined to accept me into the regular school haha

so you already turned in your application and wrote your essay?

No, unfortunately I’m still a junior…haha. I’m somewhat ahead of the game with visiting. Have you applied and all?

Stop making chance me threads if you aren’t a senior -_-

Sorry… I know I’m a bit early, but to be fair, if I were a senior right now I’d already be applied for ED and it IS quite helpful to know ahead of time. Just saying, haha.

soccersara122… you’re ambition is admirable but you shouldn’t chance other people if you’re a junior. you have no qualifications to chance seniors if you’re a junior–you haven’t even applied so how would you know anything about admissions?

Balloonshop: as a current student and someone who’s been through the full admissions process, I firmly believe that no one has the “qualifications” to chance someone for admission. A current senior knows no more than a current junior, because they have just applied, and even a current student only knows about their own situation and that of possibly some of their friends.

I find chance threads extremely useless, especially because for a school such as Brown, the essays and recs have a huge impact on admission. What you see in a chance thread such as this is just the strict qualifications such as numbers, which play a much smaller role than you’d think.

Also, Balloonshop, please don’t belittle other posters on this site. It’s helpful to no one.

Thank you bruno14! You’re right about the whole useless-chance thread thing… I couldn’t help it though!
Congrats on attending Brown and being a part of the PLME program! That’s kinda my dream but the med program isn’t too plausible with my stats unfortunately.

Get your ACT to 33 and you’d be solid for ED, though Brown’s still a high reach for anyone applying, ED or not, PLME or not.

Thank you EliKresses!! I’m gonna retake them at least once this spring and prepare a lot before then. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a good score!

Get the book “A is for admision” by Michele Hernandez. It is the best book ever written for Ivy school admission, and you can tell she was an admission officer with Dartmouth.
Also consider a tutor for the ACT/SAT since an unhooked applicant needs above average scores. Also, if you don’t get in, the state schools will likely give you merit aid based on your gpa and ACT so the higher the better. Also consider research if a science major and /or summer college to stand out from the crowd. By getting the book now there are things you can still do to increase your chances.

Hey, apply PLME! You seem like you’d fare well in admissions.

My test scores sucked. lol

thanks popcharlie! CONGRATS on getting in to PLME!! i’ve considered applying to PLME but I’m not sure if i will be able to afford medical school directly after completing undergrad :frowning: I’d literally be the happiest person everrr to be able to attend brown for 8 years of my life!!
and may I ask what science-related EC’s you had? I’ve been trying to get some shadowing/research in but I haven’t found anything yet.
