I appreciate the enforcement of dress code at certain prep schools, do you or do you not?

No.
I would never go to a private school that required a uniform of some sort.

where i live it's completely unnecesary.
therefore I don't see the point

My school is a public school in NYC. Why is the principal implementing a dress code for next year?!?!!? :(

Because too many people probably abuse your schools' current dress code?

i know thats the case here lolz. tiny skirts, strapless tanks, super low-cut shirts .. some freshmen girls dress like they're going to a strippers club =

is that bad? :)

I really dont get the point in dress code... If you are so dumb that you let some girl in a miniskirt distract you from getting good grades then you arent going anywhere in life anyway and it still doesnt make everyone equal unless everyone wheres the exact same thing. And even then, some ppl have better cars than others or better cell phones, etc...

When I graduate next year, I'll have eight years of private school education, which means eight years of uniform wearing. Really, it isn't all that bad. Well, at my school, at least. On Fridays, students have the option of wearing free dress if they have a pass. As for uniforms, we have six different sweatshirts and six different skirts/pants (and this excludes the polo, club sweatshirts, etc), which means that there are at around fourty mix-and-match combinations. There's some freedom to wearing uniforms. Besides, you don't have to spend so much time picking out what to wear in the morning.

^^Yeah that last sentence is probably the best benefit

I bet like 80% of guys would love for the dress code to be abolished . . i dont really care either though.
it was pretty hilarious when my chem class starts talking about this girl that dresses slutty like everyday and went overboard on halloween and the teacher said "oh really . . . i didn't notice any difference" ahahaha

There should not be any dress code
We should be allowed to wear whatever we want as long it is appropriate clothing................
Remember:
your style of clothing can sometimes represent yous individuality and it is a form of freedom of speech

Dress codes are ridiculous. I find it quite bizare that we can't wear skirts above the knee, and I go to a public school, and at the private catholic school a few blocks away girls wear skirts that i can practically see there butt cheeks. Also at XC practice everyone has to wear shirts whereas the same oprivate school allows runners to run bare chested or sin sports bras. So what if you're wearing a tank top or a short skirt or you can see a littl ebit of midriff????? I don't get it.

the problem with that statement is that some kids might think appropriate is 3/4th naked . . . dress code allows individuality but keeps the environment G-rated to an extent . . . I guess uniforms don't allow the "freedom of speech" you're looking for.

for us, skirt length has to be to the length of your longest middle finger when arm is extended down, so for some girls, well above the knee.

I dunno dress code really isn't that bad here, you save the skimpy stuff for the night parties anyway

Its no biggie here, though sometimes I wish I had a uniform, like on days when I forgot to do laundry and had a crap selection of shirts to pick from.

Down here the private schools have a more lenient dress code than the public schools. The public schools have to wear kacki pants and collered shirts. The private catholic school wear t shirts and jeans. It's kind of messed up that we have it better than the public schools...

We have zero dress code and thus many girls who dress like sluts; we had one show up in a bra and fishnet last year, which had to be the worst case in a long time.

Okay Dress Code is good, I uniform is even better. I know alot of people hate it, but really formal clothing is much smarter then normal clothes.

Normal clothing can equalize the clothing factor in popularity if it is strictly enforced and no appendages/accoutrements are permitted (purses, cell phones, differing hairstyles).

At my school, the dress code isn't so strict, even though we are required to wear uniforms. We had one girl show up in a bikini. She literally brought beach items to school (folding chair, towel, sunglasses) and planned on getting a tan on the school field. The Dean walked up to her and said, "What do you think this is? A beach??"

That should have caused a major stir. However, on Senior Field Day such activities exist and are permitted (seniors can do practically anything they feel like doing here).

Yeah, it did, actually. She ended up getting a suspension for it. I think she had the most detentions in one year (~30). She got an interview with the school newspaper for being the best troublemaker (she liked cutting class and living in the bathroom of the senior floor). But that was two years ago. We don't have anything crazy like that anymore.
