A friend's son is very interested in attending the Naval Academy and has been invited to an Open House this weekend. What should he wear? (What should the parents wear?)

Thanks!

Comfy walking shoes are a must for all. And, parking in and around the Naval Academy is very limited so allow time for hunting up a spot on the street unless the invite indicates otherwise.

casual but neat-
no jeans.neat but comfortable walking shoes. Polished.

males:kahki's with collared shirt- tuck shirt in and wear a belt.
Avoid shirts with logo's, etc.
Button down works all the time; tie optional, jacket unnecessary.
Neat haircut, clean shaven

Females:females: skirt or dress slacks; conservative.
Neat hairstyle, avoid excess (makeup, jewelry, perfume, nails).

Same for parents.

Nothing with Army anything! ;)

Also, leave the varsity jacket at home!

when we went a couple of years ago, I told my son to wear khakis and a sport coat. he wore jeans and a school hoodie. it was one of those days i just wasn't up for the fight, so off we went and it was a good lesson for him. He was embarassed when he saw the other boys in khakis and a sport coat. He learned the lesson and I did not have to be te bad guy. Fortunately, he never did that again and he is going to NAPS in July. so, alls well that ends well I guess!

Dress nicely -- good shoes that don't look beaten down, belt
Females --- feel free to look like a female. You don't have to have your hair up or short. You don't have to nix make-up.

Parents - they aren't judging you at all. Dress comfortably and look nice. (good walking shoes!) Many of the parents will wear jeans, which is fine.
