Dress UP clothes

Does Penn require dressing-up (shirt & time, formal dress) sometimes? Or do people just bring dress up clothes for nice occasions, such as dances and going out to nice restaurants?

it's never particularly required, but you should come with nice things to wear to restaurants and formal engagements / parties / dances / events

My D is a freshman in Wharton and she's already had a number of occasions where a business suit has been required dress for a presentation or even interviews for some clubs. My son is in CAS and it's never been necessary except he needed a tux for orchestra performances. The rest of the time, the kids dress very casually.

at wharton u wear business casual to class

Thanks for the responses!

westsidewolf1989 -- do you wear business casual to class everyday? or just special occasions, because I can't imagine business casual on a daily basis.

i dont go there..but i do have a friend that is a sophomore there in the huntsman program. it is truly pre-professional... the everyday part may have been an exaggeration on his part... but he said you do wear that type of clothing very frequently

no, you really don't have to wear business casual to wharton classes, but people do dress to impress...

You don't have to wear business casual to class....

Dress up for presentations, interviews, etc.

People don't wear business casual to class, but Wharton students would never wear pajamas to class (I've heard that is common at other schools). You will need a suit for interviews, presentations, and the like, and having a suit will always suffice in business casual scenarios.

On the whole, it's a pretty dressy place. I'm always surprised when I visit friends at other schools and see everyone in t-shirts and jeans. While that would be my clothing of choice, I guess I've grown accustomed to Penn's slightly dressier environment.

Interviews? Presentations?
I'm guessing you mean business presentations (such as the one for mgmt 100) and internship interviews on campus, I presume? Please correct me if I'm wrong! :)

well random other clubs / events have interviews

and yeah, presentations for classes (or even by companies)

Yeah, all of the above, as tenebrousfire suggests. You could have interviews for jobs, or just for clubs and activities. You could have presentations that you have to give for classes, or you might go to presentations by companies that ask you to dress up.
