The Easter outfit I was actually thinking of when I wrote that was all very bright yellow, including yellow patent leather shoes. I’m guessing it was about 1966.

I think you should definitely consider a splash of color with your black and white. When in doubt, ask one of your kids. I’m at a real loss now that my fashionistas have all fled the coop.

Wait a minute, did you say “matching” earrings?

I like turquoise with black and white. I also like red pumps with black and white. Or bright spring green accents.

I am wearing a pair of black strappy heeled sandals today that look very similar to the Jimmy Choos…they are very comfy.

Toneranger -

It’s hard to gauge on the jewelry - put the necklace up to the outfit and see what you think - it could look great if the style is complementary - the color would certainly work. I have a bright yellow patent leather Gucci pocketbook that I only use when I wear very conservative black and white. It looks great because it adds a splash of unexpected color.

I don’t wear my bright yellow bag with black and white - I feel like a bumblebee! I wear it with gray, or taupe. I had a bright spring green bag that worked well with black and white and gray but then the clasp broke.

Puzzled - wow…my shoes WERE patent (with suede accents) and it was either 1966 or 1967. Must have been the rage…

lol…the earrings match…sort of. They have silver in them though and the necklace is pretty much all turquoise. I’ll wear it with the outfits and see how they look.

In another life, I will wear strappy black sandals with high heels. In THIS life, I’m too tall - and I KNOW I would fall over. It’s one of the reasons I don’t like formal events…never know what to get for shoes.

So would a turquoise colored bag with the jewelry be overkill?
I have a lime green straw bag that I LOVE. I just can’t find it.

toneranger, how nice to know we were equally trendy. Just kidding about the earrings of course. It sounds like a great outfit. Meanwhile, I sit here wearing my default matching necklace and earrings. I’m so pathetic that I had the older earrings reset to match the 50th B-day necklace. Boring!

That said, you all have inspired me and I just switched my stuff over to a new purple suede purse I’d been saving until after the rainy season. I’ll see how long I can go using it with non-matching clothes.

My D is in love with a purple Lucky bag at Nordstrom Rack.

I am thinking that if you go with the turquoise jewelry (which I think sounds beautiful), I would opt for a black patent bag.

But…I will wait to hear what Gmom has to say.

I need a new pair of black strappy sandals. I am also in the market for a pair of patent thongs with a teeny little heel. I think thongs in patent look very dressy.

I like the black patent bag idea - turquoise seems like too much.

Since I don’t wear high heels, I have LOTS of black patent to add dressiness. Open toe with small wedge heels. Ballet flats. Pointy toe flats with a teeny heel. Flat thongs. My favorite are black patent and pewter ballet flats - breaks it up so my feet don’t look so big!

My Gucci bag is a very golden yellow - not bumblebeeish at all. I never go kitschy - ever. I would not match turquoise jewelry to a turquoise bag. If you don’t have a black patent bag, a black straw or straw bag with black accents could look nice.

Just saying . . .

(I tend to buy cheap dressy shoes, more expensive every day but if my life changes and I have enough weddings, graduations and parties to attend I may change)

Oh, and I think the turquoise jewelry with the black and white swirly is brilliant. Maybe look for a black purse with just a touch of turquoise beading?

I know, I know. I am a slave to matching.

Sorry Sewhappy, that Von Maur shoe is a nasty thing…at least it would be on me!

^ belly laugh - I know, isn’t it nasty???

Maybe we should start one more fashion thread on truly nasty stuff.

Will say that the galaxy blue dress should have silver shoes, not black. I think it’s a dark enough blue that the silver with great jewelry would work really well.

gotta cook dinner - this thread is too much fun

Does anyone wear Fitflops? It’s a totally different take on a black patent thong. I wear them to and from my workouts, and around the house. They tone and shape the leg (apparently), and they are quite comfortable.

They run big - order one half size down.

I think that the galaxy blue dress would look great with black, bright orange or a true red patent sandal, or almost any metallic strappy sandal. It depends on how bold she wants to go. I love the idea of using an opposite on the color wheel like orange or red.

Okay, orange or red is so not going to happen for me … :-)

I’m going to visit a shoe store and hold up the color to “metallic” or black or silver and see what looks right. D’s wedding dress is “ivory” (looks nearly white to me) and trimmed with silver; other D (only bridesmaid) is wearing a color that’s something like raspberry in a bluish direction (very hard to describe). My dress goes okay with it.

Zetesis - I missed that this is for your daughter’s wedding. Silver is probably the best choice, especially if your daughter has a bit of silver in her dress.

Thanks; and can I do “strappy sandals”?
