but more practical for me are skorts and tops- since I have a hard time restricting myself to behavior befitting a dress.

your cardigans sound lovely- classic cardigans can be worn with a lot of things- accessories can spiff up an outfit though- scarves still seem to be real popular- I bought a few chiffon scarves at Fred Meyer that I wear around my neck or as a belt ( not at the same time )

Really like that, Bunsen. The Classic cardigan just never seems to fit me right. This is very nice in that the front is not super long - I don’t like that look. Plus the pockets are a big plus. Have a load of coupons for Macy’s so will head over there.

Finally, the first part of my Garnet Hill order just arrived and I really, really like it. I ordered the extra small and it fits perfectly. I happen to love cap sleeves and scoop necks so I love it. I got the storm color, which seems to be incredibly flexible - works with white, black, red pink. For fifty bucks not a bad start to the summer wardrobe infusion. I know this dress looks flimsy and kind of shapeless in the main picture but if you click on the one where the model is on the bike you get a sense of the really cute cut.

J.Crew always has cardigans on sale, and they are a good choice. Their lightweight cashmere is good for summer and they are shorter than the traditional cut.

Thank you fashion geniuses for the good advice on sweaters. Many good leads.

Regarding the quest for the comfortable but stylish shoe for feet with issues: I love Dansko but not when the occasion calls for real style. Bjorn can be better then, also a shoe made in Israel by the brand name of Beautifeel, which are very sumptuous chic shoes and expensive enough that I only buy them occasionally. I also really enjoy Geox flats but they are really FLAT and not good for fragile feet.

Bunsen: sadly, all three lovely pairs of black flats did not fit. The Burberry flats are nice, but not too comfy for me. The Me Too flats were better but need the next size up. I did look at Famous Footwear as you suggested but nothing in my size.

I’m so mad that my feet do not like the unstructured little flats. I was shopping today at our local nice organic grocery store and saw so many stylish women in slim black ankle pants and flats. Humpf. I’m predicting that flats and capris (or capri-length leggings for the younger set) are going to be very popular this summer.

Bookiemom, that’s too bad :(. Burberry shoes run small, a whole size small for me. Maybe you should try Born (or Bjorn?) Adele flats - they have foot cushioning and some arch support:

If REI sells them, that means they are good for walking! I have not chance to try them at work - DD snatched them from me and is happy walking around her college campus in them.

Bunsen! I think we must have some sort of local cosmic connection. I was literally Googling trying to find those Born Adele flats you recommended (Zappos and Nordstrom are out) and was looking on REI. Came back to CC Style Party, and there is your REI recommendation! I think I’ll try those next. I like the mesh style ones you found too.

Don’t you love DDs that steal your shoes? My D loved my Born tie leather sneakers so much, I finally gave them to her.

I can’t wear either of my kids shoes- younger D has feet just a tad longer than mine about 1/2 size-plus she wears cheap flip flops or flats most of the time- she has " borrowed" dress heels from me though.
Older D, has the tiniest feet- about a 5 1/2 womens . She can hardly find any that work. ( and that she likes/can afford.

( I get younger D’s jeans she decides are too short- thank goodness for spandex!)

I don’t own a single pair of flats - no flats fit me, not even anything from zappos. I started adult life with a narrow foot. After three pregnancies (av birth weight 10 lbs) the front of my feet spread but my heel, of course, didn’t…so D width toes + AA width heels = no flats ever made fit.

I like Born flats and thongs. Nordstrom’s Rack carries them sometimes at really good prices.

I love my Sam Edelman flats. They’re cut to show a lot of the foot…and they have a different color on the toe…which shortens the look of my big feet! Expensive though for a non-leather shoe. And not much support…although I don’t really need it.

I have TOO many flats. I should probably break out and wear a two inch heel once in a while. Don’t need any leg lengthening though or any extra height. I see that someone like Sigourney (6 feet tall) wears heels…but wow…I think I would too if I had her legs and figure :)
