Dressing Young (Part 1)

So funny, sewhappy. Your Garnet Hill dress is very cute. You’re lucky you have the figure to wear that style.

I bought these gladiators from QVC and love them. Cute and comfy!
Here are my D’s gladiators - they are actually flats with black silk ribbons that lace up like ballet shoes. Her grandmother bought them for her on spring break:

That would explain the lockdown  You must’ve been smokin’ hot.

Yes, fortunately the intervention was handled sensitively . . .

Bookiemom,

The cap sleeve swingy dress from Garnet Hill is very, very figure forgiving. The reviews online are very truthful. It fits fairly snugly around the shoulder area but then falls away from my personal trouble zones - tummy, hips. And what I love is the length. Hits just above the knee. I have it in the storm and am considering also ordering it in the coral. For the price, it’s just a great simple little dress:

Got my zappos order today and I LOVE this one:

sewhappy, I do not know why Lole had to tweak that neckline! I have a sleeveless version of this dress with classic V-shaped neckline and I love it. It does look a bit trekkish :)

According to the weathermen, we are going to have the warmest temperatures of the year tomorrow, so tonight I’m going to shop in my closet for something lighter. I’m already tired of jeans and sweaters!

Yesterday at a luncheon I sat next to Robert Ponte, a style expert who has been on Oprah at least 8 times. He was a house guest of a friend, not a featured speaker but he was asked to say a few words. He said that almost all the women in the room had “suburban” hair but pointed out the “best” hairdo on a woman who has hers done in NYC every week. It is long, done up with a bow on a clip and held in place with glittery decorated bobby pins. I always thought her “do” was outdated and frumpy! My own hairdo is wash and wear and I have no intention of turning it into a high maintenance work of art.

Silvestersmom,

I’m trying hard but just can’t quite visualize the long hair, bow, glittery hair pins. Sounds . . . demented!

I’m trying to visualize that hairdo as well, and all I can think of is … a Barbie! LOL!

What’s your take on wedge shoes - like them, hate them?

No, not since '75…can’t go back!

I don’t mind them on espadrilles and the like, but am not crazy about them otherwise. A lot depends on the actual shoe and the outfit.

It’a the whole wedge feel . . see myself toppling off the cliff and breaking an ankle.

I like this catalog too, but no shops that I know of in US, though i have found a few things at a local consignment shop.

^^Nice… I never heard of this brand, but some of their clothes look very cute. Why did they have to “improve” the lovely blue cardigan by adding “jewels” along the neckline?

I happen to like wedges, maybe because my first pair of high heels were espadrille-like wedges that I begged my mom to buy for me. I can dream, can I? :

Boden is great - I have a couple of consignment items too, mostly for concert wear since their tailored blouses and shirts are great. Just a warning though that if you find anything here they use UK sizing, and you have to order one size up, if not two…noticed on the web site though that they switched to US sizing (probably because of many returns no doubt)

wedge shoes: they are very forgiving when on uneven terrain or lawns. So if you want a bit of height but don’t want to sprain an ankle or walk on your tip toes to avoid sinking into the turf, they have their place!

I have about three or four pair of Born wedges/platforms.
They are very comfortable and are much easier to walk in than heels- since I don’t wear " heels" more than occasionally-it is nice to not have to change my stride too much.

I like some of the prints and jackets at Boden- but the large buttons seem a little much and I have also wondered about the sizing-no petites and I can’t tell how they fit even allowing for the european sizes.

Hmmm . . . maybe I’ll give the wedge a try. Have always assumed I wouldn’t be able to handle the height.

I like the wedges and own 2 pair, unfortunately one pair is very uncomfortable, they rub against the top of my foot.
