For those of you who like Banana Republic, but not the prices, check around and see if there is a Bananda Republic Outlet/Factory store nearby. I found one about an 80 miles from my house; I do not go there often, but I do watch for opportunities to combine that stop with other errands (it’s on the way to the airport, etc) and the clothes are nice and they have tons of coupons, in store sales, email coupons, etc.

My daughter started talking about Juicy when she was about 10. The velour jackets were 80 dollars at the time, and several of her classmates had 6-8 of them in their closets! I bought her a Target copy for 14 dollars which she seemed very happy with. Happily she’s outgrown the desire for it because i’m not crazy about the styles and they’re on the high side for her budget! (we do have a juicy outlet though)

Yes, I wouldn’t be happy about having my middle schooler have “Juicy” written on her velour-covered butt! LOL. Target has nice stuff that’s decent & affordable (& the kids outgrow it so soon, it’s worthwhile not to invest a lot).

Since it’s cool out today, D13 is wearing the Juicy velour sweat suit that she got at Century 21 for the first time. “Juicy” is on the back of the jacket, but the pants are plain. If you’re 13, 5’5" and 103 lbs, you can get by with that look.

No young girl, or any female, should have “Juicy” written across her butt or anything written across their butt. We were with a couple several years ago and their D came into the room in velour pants with writing across her butt and the dad made her change her clothes and asked his wife what she was thinking when she bought them.

Victoria Secrets PINK line has the same connotation to me- I can’t help but be reminded of Carrie Fisher’s memoir * Surrender the Pink* which I am pretty sure has a sexual meaning.

However I do love Neighborhoodies where you can pick out what you want written across your butt, yourself.

Neither I nor any of my daughters would be caught dead in the clothes but I do bathe my dog in the shower with Juicy Crittoure shampoo and conditioner. Really - it’s made by the Juicy company. I always feel a bit like Paris Hilton or something but it smells very good. Needless to say, it was a gift.

Missy - I refer to my daughters on the threads as DD or D1 or D2. By D13 are we talking age or birth order???

AGE!!! Wonder what my figure would be like if I’d had 13 kids!

If you had 13 kids you probably wouldn’t be posting on this forum. You would have a TV show!

MOWC…now I’m tempted to joined that FB group just to see your pic!
26 miles…so impressive… I wish I could go back to my measly 2 mile runs…LOL.
So far, no need for stretchy top pants though…that would be SOOOO depressing.

At the nice restaurant I went to on Friday, there was a women who looked to be in her 50s. VERY short skirt, no hose, and ummm…probably shouldn’t be going there. I guess you really do need friends (or a mom) to pull you aside sometimes…

My aunt just added a facebook picture…I don’t know how to feel about it…with died hair, a face lift and working out a lot, she really does look pretty darned good in her skimpy sequined dress…but at 69???

Bunsen, you can join Facebook and simply not friend your kid. Then, assuming you restrict your sharing to friends, which is what most people do, you won’t see each other’s stuff.

Thank you, Consolation! Good advice, I think I will give Facebook a try. The only thing I’m afraid of is that since I’m such a novice in these things, I might do something wrong and I will be “discovered”.

I wonder if in 20 years our kids will be discussing their Juicy and Free People stuff the way we are discussing our Gunne Sax dresses :)

I am 5 lbs over my youngish figure weight. I don’t do any exercise. I don’t have a tennis elbow, bad knee or ankle. I think exercise is over rated. The best way to keep one’s weight down is stress. (this is really a lazy person talking)

Back to clothes…I would not pay for Juicy because of the image it portrays, and I wouldn’t pay for Anthopologies because it’s over priced (they look like the kind of stuff I could get at garage sales). On th other hand, my girls have been wearing Free People for a long time.

My favorite brands are MaxMara (just had a sale on Rue La La), Tahari, DKNY(black and white collections in the summer). I own a lot of pin stripe shirts from Faconnable, RL, and Etro. There was a time when I have aspired to Armani and Prada, but they looked hideous on me (I am too short). My ultimate splurge is Lora Piana. I shop at outlets and discount stores a lot. As I get older I buy fewer things, but of better quality. I am not giving up yet.

I was thinking that at least I was in my teens/early 20s when Gunne Sax and Laura Ashley were all the rage. What were the 50 somethings wearing back then?

I haven’t seen Juicy stuff, since like khhstitches I live in LL Bean Land–and moreover do not have a D --but velour sweatsuits with words on the ass sound monumentally tacky to me. I guess you have to see them.

Oldfort, you made me look up Loro Piana - wow, their cashmere looks luxurious. Next time I’m in Boston, I will swing by their store on Newbury Street (whether I can afford anything in there is a diffrent topic :)) We are such hillbillies here in WA, until a month ago we did not even have a single Neiman Marcus store in the entire state!

I wear mostly Calvin Klein, Tahari, pants from Limited and Express, and random finds from Nordstrom Rack.

Far be it from me to defend the Juicy brand, but the sweat pants really don’t have “Juicy” on the rear. There is usually a logo on the back of the hoody and some of the pants have the name vertically down the leg.

Thanks for the link, missypie. They just look cheap to me (although not vulgar) , but then a) I can’t stand velour, and b) I hate clothes with advertising on them.
