Dressing Young (Part 1)

^^Nice look, MOfWC! I like Facconnable shirts - they usually fit well. Maybe I should get a few cardigans so I can wear my shirts and feel warm… Hmmmm… Shopping…

Where do you find Facconnable shirts? I looked online and was repeatedly sent to Nordstroms, but I see only 2 styles for women.

BunsenBurner, I just purhased this cardigan in purple

It is very cozy!

mafool, as far as I know it is a Nordy’s brand

well since we are sharing recent purchases
[REI Boulder Ridge Fleece Jacket](http://www.rei.com/product/786801)
I just bought this at the REI sale- it is very cozy too- plus it has a place for me to write my # in case I get lost!

My 18-year old son just told me that he likes my new shoes! (Not an everyday occurrence, so… yay!) And I love them because they’re as comfortable as athletic shoes, but they look much better with jeans.

Wow, I don’t know what I’d have to wear my feet before my 18 year old son would notice. Pineapples?

Yes, he’s unusually aware of things for a male. My 21-year old son probably couldn’t tell you whether I wear shoes or not!

Worknprogress: best wishes for a speedy recovery for your mom.

I just returned from shopping at Nordstrom Rack. I was looking for some wool or cashmere sweaters but no luck. I am freezing cold in the winter if I don’t have on wool or a silk underlayer. I did find Smartwool long underwear for walking my dogs this winter. I got my D a set of both top and pants for Christmas.

Other purchases were a pair of mid-height scrunched black leather, flat boots and a nice pair of Born black leather tie shoes kind of like running shoes but more stylish. I love Nordstrom Rack–you never know what you will find.

Visited Nordstrom’s rack last weekend and found the EXACT Dansko shoes I had seen online, but for half price - $64! Unfortunately when I slid my feet in, I discoverd that Dansko’s idea of where your arch and toes should be doesn’t match my feet.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. Mom is now home and she seems to be functioning much better. As I said, the banter in this dressing room of sorts helped me when I was holding on by a thread.

So, on a dressing young note. Today was her 80th birthday and I bought a cute outfit for her at Talbots (well, she is 80). Nice cords and a matching argyle cardigan and a WHITE blouse. She was so excited. As my DH said, her face just lit up. Good to know she still wants to be stylish.

After reading this thread I know it is time to replace my boots. I just wish there was a Nordstrom’s nearby! The closest one is at least an hour away!!

For years and years, Dansko clogs (stapled and professional) were manufactured by a company called Sanita. That relationship ended in 2007 and Sanita started distributing the same shoes it made for Dansko under the Sanita brand. Dansko began contracting with different manufacturers to produce a new redesigned shoe. The new Dansko shoes look very much like the old ones, but Dansko says there are structural differences. If you look at the bottom of your Dansko shoes and there’s a patent number, then it was made by Sanita and if you want that same shoe–then get it from Sanita.

Bromfield, thanks for that information. (Heading back to the Zappos website…)

workinprogress, right now Nordstrom has free shipping on all footwear purchases. I bought waterproof fall boots for DD, and they were much cheaper at nordstrom.com than at Zappos - an $80 difference, yikes! Of course, anything bought online can be returned to a brick-and-mortar Nordstrom for full refund.

Bromfield–wow, thanks for that info re: Danskos! I literally live in them, except for running & hiking shoes. I’ll check out Sanita. And, didn’t know Nordstrom’s Rack might have Danskos on special. I’ve also gotten them off ebay for a fraction of the cost.

I contacted Dansko about 18 mos ago & asked them to start making the mary jane style Dansko summer shoes again (they’d discontinued them). Everything else sandle-like was not stable enough on my feet. I think they did! Not saying it was my one contact, but they do seem responsive to customer feedback.

Edit–cool about the Nordstrom’s, BB!! They just opened one near us (10 mins) so I could order online…return to the store if it doesn’t work <plotting></plotting>

Cute about your mom liking the outfit, wkinprgrss!

Glad to hear your mom is feeling better, worknprogress!

Such useful things I learn at CC: the Dansko/Sanita connection (thanks, Bromfield). The other tip is to book airline flights on Tuesdays or Wenesdays. But I digress…

I have a pair of Danskos that are probably 8 years old. I love them and wear them all the time but the fit is not great, a little too big. Also, the fact that they are not the least flexible means that I’ve twisted my ankle in them, especially when walking on uneven ground. I don’t know if it’s because they’re too big. Anyone else have problems with them? I’m not gonna give them up, and apparently I won’t have to. They seem indestructable. They’ll be able to bury me in them (God, what an image).

Re: white shirts. I think you are either a ‘white shirt’ person or not. I want to be one but I just can’t seem to pull it off. Hence, the unworn white shirt in my closet. Shopping rule #5: Buy clothes for the person you are, not the person you want to be. (In my case, that would be the spiffy looking, “crisp”, professional woman–NOT.)

Except, I guess, on the job. I’ve always heard that that rule was “Dress for the job you want, not for the one you have.” (Guess that works unless your dream job is something like back up dancer for Beyonce.)

“Beware of all enterprises that require new clothes.”
-Henry Thoreau

Henry Thoreau, clearly, was not a shopper, nor was he ever a 50 year old woman.
Carry on, ladies.

These are great rules. If I followed them, I would own significantly fewer clothes and have a lot more money in the bank.
