Dressing Young (Part 1)

Gee, FallGirl, sometimes that’s the most fun I have in a week!

Lululemons are wonderful and come in short and tall, run very long and can behemmed for free.

I am spoiled as my DD worked there in college and has an entire assortment of hand me ups which I stole! We also have a lululemon outlet store about an hour from my house…check your local outlets and see if you have one nearby. They carry the full priced groove pants, but also many of the seasonal items that go out of fashion. Horror or horrors, my lulus are mostly from 2004-5 and my DD still has her first pair, purchased with her own money for full price in 2002! They last, they maintain their shape and lift.

I just checked the website and the outlet near me is not listed- for those of you in the Seattle area it is in the outlet malls at exit 229-230 off the 5. In other areas you may just need to check your outlet malls for a listing. I wonder if you are more likely to have one near the Canadian border? Ours is just 40 miles south of the border near Vancouver and many Canadians come down to shop at the two outlet malls.

I spend a lot of time in yoga pants:). I have 2 pairs of Nikes and one pair of Lululemons. I prefer the Lululemons, just because they feel more like cloth than like plastic. And they actually run very long. But Corporette ( a great site BTW if you work or have a daughter starting her first corporate/law job) recommends these Champion pants from Target. [C9 by Champion Fitted Bootcut Pant with Extended Sizes - Black : Target](http://www.target.com/C9-Champion-Fitted-Bootcut-Extended/dp/B00130EBKQ/ref=br_1_1?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&searchView=grid5&searchNodeID=2241720011&searchRank=salesrank&searchPage=1&searchSize=30). And they are only $20.00.

(BTW, also happy to make anyone feel better about buying a good quality luxury good that they plan to use for a long time:).

Another vote for Lululemon here. I used to pooh pooh them for being so expensive and bought my yoga pants at TJ Maxx. But H bought me some for Christmas and I can’t believe how comfortable and flattering they are! There is some tricky seam stuff going on that hold me together in a bold new way, they don’t bunch up at the crotch, AND, best of all, they actually have a higher rise so no muffin top! I’m sure glad to hear they last because I could have bought 3 pants at TJ for the same price, but now I’m a convert

I only have two or three handbags (purses? whatever) but how do you switch around with all the stuff? Isn’t that a pain? Do you keep all the stuff in your bag in a container? I’ve seen these envelopes recently in stores for that. How do you guys do that?

DKE -

To answer your question, check posts #1242 and #1243 on this thread,

I use a 1 qt. ziplock bag. It holds lip balm, lipstick, tissue pack, tiny ziplocs w/ Immodium and Tylenol, toilet seat covers, hand sanitizer, small comb and cough drops. Easy to find the items.

Zipper bags are great, but they don’t last very long. When I pack my carryon items in a zipper bag for the plane, it falls apart by the end of the trip. My LV cosmetics bag is close to ten years old and it still looks perfect - they’re almost indestructible.

The makeup bag idea is great, and I’ll probably start doing that for small items. But then there are other things that need to be transferred between handbags: sunglasses (I have sensitive eyes, and always need them on sunny days), reading glasses (ah the joys of middle age!), a small notebook to jot things down, etc. So I usually stick with two good, medium-sized daytime bags, one for spring/summer and another for fall/winter, as well as an assortment of small ones for evening events.

Love the Nike Dri-Fits, but also try Lucy brand.
I have over the last 6 years, acquired at least 10 pairs of Nike Dri-fit yoga pants or Lucy brand. I first discovered their amazing qualities when I bought them for a loooong international flight, when I wanted to be comfortable, but semi-stylish. Before that trip, I actually used a black Sharpie to black-out the white swoosh embroidered on the upper leg. I was never more comfortable on a flight, and arrived unrumpled and without baggie knees. A quick hand wash in a hotel sink, dripdry, and I wore them repeatedly throughout that trip, out to dinner and everywhere, and on the way home. They are my day-off uniform, and I echo everyone’s comments about them draping just right, NOT creating a muffin top, and holding up admirably. A few years ago I started tossing them all in the dryer on the low-temp cycle and not even that has destroyed them. Definitely worth full price at $65, but I’ve found them on sale at various outlets. Try one pair and you will be a convert, I bet.

re athletic pants.
I tried Lucy but they shrunk in the dryer and are now too short. Liked the fit initially but I feel like I wasted my money. BTW, I’m quite tall.
Lulumon/Ahtletica…wow…the pants look great but I just can’t spend 100 bucks plus shipping for a pair of athletic pants. I get yoga pants from Amazon for 20 bucks and they do just fine. I have a harder time with bike pants…don’t like the spandex but it’s hard to find pants with a narrow bottom.
Ordered the Target pants for 20 bucks…I’ll let you know how they are. I’m a cheapie!

hmmmmm. having long resisted the notion of wearing anything with elastic in the waist for non-exercise wear, I may may need to give them a try.

I don’t think I’ve ever needed a different ziplock bag to carry my necessities. Same one is still in service.

Okay, y’all are pathetic. I guarantee that you’ll feel better if you go to Walmart and spend $4.99 on an actual makeup bag.

I second that missypie, there are lots of cheap and chic cosmetics bags out there - no need to keep a Ziplock in your purse. Most of the department store cosmetic brands give them away a few times a year full of free products.

Macy’s is a good source of “free” makeup pouches. Every time I buy mascara for my D, I get one of those as a “gift”.

yup, i have at least 6 of those free makeup bags sitting doing nothing, I never thought about repurposing into a puse catchall. Cool!

OK the no muffin tops and no baggy knees are selling me on these Nike Dri-fits. Someone mentioned no-sag crotch too, I think; another pet peeve of mine. Am going out and try to track some down.

I suppose it’s too much to ask for a sports bra that doesn’t squash? I guess their primary purpose is to quell bouncing; to accomplish THAT requires squashing, yes? It’s just that the uni-boob is so…well, un-young.

Canamdance, do you have Academy Sports and Outdoors stores near you? D and I were just laughing at the wide variety of sports bras there last week. (Laughing because we barely need a bra at all and some of these were really heavy duty.)

I was loving the image of a $300 handbag containing a bunch of ziplock bags. If you want to buy American (Seattle-made, in fact), this company has a wonderful array of organizer pouches: [Clear Organizer Pouches: TOM BIHN](TOM BIHN Clear Organizer Pouch, Travel Accessory, Multiple Sizes) You can get them with a clear face, or fabric, or even made of cork fabric. I love them!
