Dressing Young (Part 2)

@soozievt I saw a lot of dresses on Sundance I liked, but sadly, I knew they wouldn’t really work for me!

I love this dress. https://www.nordstrom.com/s/eliza-j-floral-print-halter-dress/5282979?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FAll%20Results&color=410

Not sure whether it would work, but unfortunately they only have it in size 2 so can’t even give it a try. And a google search to see if someone other than Nordstrom had it was a fruitless effort. That said, I forgot that I really like Eliza J so your link to one of her dresses reminded me. I’m on my phone so hard to get good idea of the dresses you linked - need to wait until I get home so I can look using my ipad with much larger screen.

@4kids4us

I think I showed you two Eliza J dresses:

You are going to look so cute! I love that top. It certainly is nice to dress up again!

Wow, @soozievt you are going to keep me busy! Thanks for all the links. I guess I know what I’ll be doing tonight - looking at all the dresses you found for me! :two_hearts:

I love all the choices for short, pear-shaped ladies… now I just would need some place to wear them (or the dresses I bought during Covid, hardly worn)

I like the anthropology dress too; it looks so comfortable. I don’t like fitted waists. I think it is pretty in the red pattern too

Ha, I didn’t buy any clothes at all during Covid as I wasn’t going anywhere except the grocery store. Plus, since hitting menopause 3-4 years ago, having never been overweight, I had gained weight that I finally decided to concentrate on losing. I did not want to waste money on clothes that would hopefully be too big in the future. I’ve lost 15 pounds already and planning to lose 10 more, but really need something new and fun for graduation! I actually have two - my daughter graduates college in three weeks and my son graduates high school a week later.

I have a bunch of packages coming in the mail so hopefully something will fit and be flattering. I really wish that Anthropologie dress was in stock though!

I’ve lost weight in recent years, makes dress shopping more fun. But when our son graduated from college in 2015 I was still 20 lb overweight. I had to shop around a while (easier when world is not shut down for Covid) and found a sleeveless fit-n-flare style that was lovely for the graduation. I had a light, dressy short jacket to help for weather variations since it was an outdoor ceremony.

TIP - Consider your shoes on campus, since often there is a lot of walking involved, sometimes across grassy areas. Spikey heels could be awkward. I had a pair of wedge sandals that worked well.

@Colorado_mom no spiky heels for me - I have bunions so wedge style or fun sandals it will be. One thing I love about summer is the freedom my toes finally have from close toed shoes!

Ok, so I caved. And ordered the dress from Anthropologie. It looked like they have a return coming in and in my size. But of course, after I ordered I read the reviews that said that it runs really short! And I ordered the petite.

I’ll be sure to come back and review it. Looks like a nice casual short dress for summer. Idk where I will wear it though. Maybe I’ll lounge around in my backyard in it

You MUST report back!!! I mean, SOMEONE had to try it for us all !!!

I had to go searching for the anthro dress. Is it the “robin tiered”? That is adorable. What color did you get?

I got the navy. The other colors are nice but I thought the navy was more versatile.

The good news is that it’s machine washable. My one beef with Anthropologie is that they have a lot of dry clean only items. I do not do summer dry clean only!

I’m tempted to order it too!

@4kids4us Did you end up liking any of the dress links or ordering any?

I was thinking of ordering it too. It’s like last year’s coatigan. I think the reviewer who said the anthro dress was too short is 6 ft 3- maybe I read that too fast but I’m thinking most regular size dresses would be too short on someone that tall.

Hi. Offtopic question here but do you mind sharing you lost the weight after meno? I’ve gained 20+ pounds since, also having never been overweight, and am entirely unable to get the scale to move. Very discouraged. Congratulations on your upcoming graduates!

The description of the dress is that it is 33” long in the petite and 35” for the regular.

But one of the reviews says that it is actually 28” long. I think the dress is longer in the back and that is where they get 33”. It might be 28” in the front and 33” in the back? I will see if it’s an appropriate length.

I lost weight in my 50s via long and gradual method (over a year for for 20 lb loss). First I started walk/run. then running (4 years after the start I still run 5k a few times a week), then started watching my calorie intake. I like MyNetDiary food app, but many people like MyFitnessPal.
