I heard that Drew was very good with the Grants etc. The bottom line, one has to get it the same or cheaper than going to a state school. Hopefully cheaper!! We are still waiting to see the financial aid package, now that you have gotten yours I am sure they are sending the rest of them out.I hope ours is good so that we can afford to send him to Drew!!!

Any Idea when we will be receiving our financial aid package. We were told months ago it would be in March.

Glenn, my son got his package quite a while ago. I think you should put a call into their FA office.

I did call last week and they said it was being processed that I would hear this month. Our CSS and FAFSA were not turned in till Feb 11th and I know they received it. Was just wondering. Maybe they go by date that you get it in. I hope!!

Has anyone ever renegotiated aid with Drew? What were the results?

I was accepted to Drew with a $15,000 Dean’s Scholarship and recently found out I was accepted in the Civics Scholar Program with another $5,000 scholarship (in total, it’s $20,000 per year)! I’m really excited. I hope things work out with Drew, because I’m starting to really like the school and they have given me excellent merit aid so far. :)

Has anyone heard from Drew that did not apply with the priority application?

My D is Chinese & interested in Chinese major and music. Any comments about Drew?

To NancyD:

The Chinese and music departments are small. It’s likely that there will only be a handful of students majoring in either of those subjects. I think that academically, the school is very good. Unlike a lot of other schools, the professors here are really interested in undergrads. Most classes are relatively small, professors (not TAs) teach the classes, and the professors are accessible. I felt Drew classes were intellectually stimulating but not excessively competitive.

The more complicated issue is whether your child likes Drew and can deal with a lot of the school’s non-academic crap. A decent percent of students (~20%) will leave Drew after the first year. I found that a lot of those who left don’t like a small school environment, or want or more lively social life. Dealing with non-academic departments is like dealing with the state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). There is a lot of red-tape and unprofessional behavior. The departments most complained about are Health Services, Housing, and Public Safety.

You can check out the website for Chinese, write professors if you’d like.
I would definitely check it out since it is a small major there, but she would also have small classes and chances to go abroad to further study.
Students, who never had Drew as their first choice, and a few that did, do leave, but my son didn’t know many. Some always wanted another college, some found it too small, some decided to go to their state school for less tuition.
It is a small school, my son went there and majored in Psych and Econ and Spanish minor. He liked it overall, wasn’t a “party type” but there were parties every weekend. He loved his small classes, the relationships formed with his professors and it was nice to have some of them greet me at graduation with kind things about my son and sincerely wanting him to keep in touch (which he has)
It’s not perfect and might not be for your daughter, but worth checking out.

Hi! those of you who got 18,000 dollars a year! can you ttell me what your stats were?
I love Drew a lot, but I have to pick a school based on the amount of money I get.

…

Drew does not have a set GPA/SAT/EC in which you can determine how much scholarship you would receive. However, they are generous when it comes to that department, and there are additional scholarships in community service, theatre, and the arts in which you might qualify for. There is also a newly developed honors program that has great funding, if accepted.

My son was just accepted at Drew with a nice Dean’s award. Still a lot of money, but we expect to get need based aid as well. I’ve seen some previous years comments about concern about international community, etc. My son grew up overseas but attended American schools. Has anyone had relevant experience that they might like to share? Thanks.
@ssgebt when did he apply? did he do rolling admission? priority or no? I’m waiting for an admissions decision.
accepted with 21k dean’s award
Just found out I was accepted into the Baldwin Honors Program as a bio major!
Does anyone have have any info on this? From the research that I’ve done it looks like a pretty sweet deal ($28,500 + many honors programs benefits!!). How is the bio department at Drew? I’m looking in to med school so are there a lot of opportunities for internships/research? Also I’ve heard of people complaining that the academic environment at Drew isn’t engaging/competitive… how true is this? Thanks!
