Let’s be clear—college tuition is too high. So we’re lowering our tuition by 20%.
Our current published tuition price makes it seem as if the value of a Drew education is beyond the reach of many families. But the reality is that most students and families do not pay the full tuition price thanks to the generous financial aid that Drew offers. In 2018–19, we estimate that 72% of our students will receive need-based aid, and we will offer about $32 million in institutional grants and scholarships. Our average total financial aid award will be about $30,000 and the average scholarship or grant about $20,000." …
Encouraging! I toured this weekend with my daughter and she loved it. It seems like the new leadership has been making great strides. We definitely felt the enthusiasm about the changes and the tuition reset.
bosmama - What specifically did your daughter like about Drew? What changes were being emphasized by the school? We are considering a visit later in the spring - D is a junior.
My daughter was iffy at first, and it was partly (mostly) my fault. We jammed in a of bunch of college visits, and didn’t fairly look at the campus (3rd kid always gets the scraps). Unfortunately the GPS directions take you up the service entrance, pass the dumpsters (note to admin: this is a bummer…make it prettier). My daughter wanted to look at the campus further, and went on a proper tour. The student activity is in the center of the campus - you will not see it driving through!! After the tour, my daughter was all in. An ED kid (and an athlete with many options - pm me if you want to know more). Being an athlete, my daughter looks for events that are not heavily alcohol focused. Having a highly regarded theater program on campus was a real value add. The theater program is crazy - super talented kids, and highly ranked. We both loved how the jocks in this school raved about the theater program! It’s awesome having this resource on campus. Drew is really impressive, I’m sold.
ChillDad - My daughter did NOT like it at first. She thought it was ugly and boring. Doing an overnight with the field hockey team sealed the deal. We feel like it’s important to get to know the forest - funny to say for us Boston folk.
Def visit again. My daughter was ‘meh’ after her visit (note to admin… the gps directions DO NOT lead to the beautiful front drive). Daughter is sold, and an ED kid. Strangely, son #4 is now interested after spending time on campus - I predicted he do his own thing. Look at the visiting speaker series - very much big Uni, not small LAC. Good luck magnetnh
Drew isn’t worth even the discounted price. The campus is falling apart. Compare the dorms at this college with those of similarly ranked schools. You will find that the facilities at Drew are ugly and decrepit. The trees are pleasant but it doesn’t exude a college feel. Overall, this school isn’t impressive at all. It isn’t even well known. Why spend the money on old facilities at a lower tier two institution.
It is ugly and boring. Don’t waste your money on this place. This school has experience problems. Do you really believe they are fixing them by lowering tuition? Come on. Be smart bosmama.
