Drew university

Does anyone have any info about Drew University in New Jersey??academics, social life, admission etc. any info at all would help. thanx.

I'm a sophomore and I'm not too crazy about it. It's incredibly small, and there are parties and stuff, but it can be hard to meet people. It's near NYC though, and the classes are not hard. It's not that hard to get into.

Know of two students who are freshman there and looking to transfer. For the right student, it's the right school, but for these two, obviously not. One's looking at UMBC and the other at Northeastern.

We toured last summer and I posted a report in the Parents Forum. It's in the archives. S liked it a lot, and he would have gotten a huge merit scholarship there, but ultimately he wanted a bigger, more urban school.

Is Governor Kean still the President? and didn't the star of "Dawson's Creek" go to Drew?

Kean resigned and they have a search committee for a new president. Don't know for sure about "Dawson's Creek," but I think you're right.

I recommended Drew to a friend whose daughter is a HS junior and heavily involved in local theater. She is a member of our professional theater's apprentice company and wants to attend a school in/near NYC. Drew has a relationship with the NJ Shakespeare Festival. Her stats may not get her into Tisch/NYU but she might get merit $$ at Drew.

We live down the road from Drew.
Not too many kids attend from our son's HS since it's just too familiar and close.
The campus is gorgeous though. Suburban, down the road from either Morristown or Madison; two towns with food, shopping, etc.
Very close to train to NYC.

Our son attended a residential music summer program there for two summers and loved the campus. I just don't know much about the 'real' academics of the school.

S got a Dean's Choice application in the mail the other day. No application fee, apply by 12/1, and he'll know in two weeks. Automatic consideration for merit award.
The ED deadline is 12/1, but I'm not sure if it's an ED application.

I just came back from Drew's Science Day/Open House with my husband & son, who is a junior in hs. It is a lovely small intimate school in a beautiful wooded setting, with a forest/arboretum adjacent to it. All students we talked with absolutely love it there. They love the small intimate campus and feel that all of the professors really love what they do and truly want to share it with their students!

There is no Greek life at Drew, but there are many clubs to fulfill anyone's interests. About 90% of the students live on campus, which is guaranteed for 4 years. The dorms are mostly coed doubles, but there are singles and triples as well. There are themed dorms too, but they are for upper classmen.

This was the second school we've looked at so far. The first was Quinnipiac in CT. That too was a beautiful campus... more open green lawns than Drew. The only negative aspect of Drew that we noticed was that the maintenance could have been better. Quinnipiac, for instance was kept up like a beautiful resort, inside and out. The inside of the buildings at Drew on the other hand, could have been cleaner and better maintained. But, I felt that the smaller classes at Drew outweighed the maintenance issue.

Of course, my son only being a junior, we still have quite a few other colleges to visit, but Drew is at the top of his list!

Look at Quinnipiac too, Quinnipiac average class size is 22, with no real lecture halls on campus. Most 300 and 400 level classes are capped out at 15, 18 students and even freshman intro classes are not bigger than 30, 35 students.

Check out the site www.studentsreview.com. Last time I checked, Drew's student satisfaction ratings were terrible.

The requirements to post there are nil so anyone could be writing those reviews.
