Drexel Honors or U.Park/Pitt?

I wish there was more information regarding the competitiveness of Drexel Honors so I have a better idea. Nevertheless, I couldn't find any. I find out my bill for Drexel Honors, Pitt, and UPark pretty much amounts to the same, so which is the best of the three?

Thanks!

That depends on your intended major: it would be Pitt>PSU>Drexel or PSU>Pitt>Drexel. It may also come down to your preference for rural vs urban setting. Both Pitt and Drexel are very urban, whereas PSU is in a more traditional college town setting several hours from the nearest city. Pitt has more of a campus than Drexel though. Based on honors admission criteria and major scholar awards (see [thread here](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1041074-best-honor-programs-public-universities-updated-12.html)), Pitt’s honors could be considered the best of the three, followed by Schreyer, and then Drexel a distant third. Pitt’s and Drexel’s honors colleges are open admission if you don’t get in as a freshman, meaning that with permission you can still fully participate in them if you are so motivated.

I would say you are the only who posted on that thread and believed that Pitt’s honors program is the best of the three.

OP is your choice between all three honors programs, or is it Drexel honors vs. Pitt non-honors or PSU non-honors?

When you are comparing costs, are you including the fact that Drexel is usually an extra year?

And finally what are you planning to major in?

OP posted on the Pitt forum, and is comparing Drexel Honors to Pitt regular and PSU regular.

@1moremom - that link points at Pennquack’s data, not wgcmp101’s own opinion.
@wgcmp101 - Drexel is a private school and not even covered in that thread.

@OP - those schools are all different in size and location, but your question apparently boils down to the perception of prestige. In engineering, all 3 have good (and equivalent) reputations and all 3 have co-op programs. But, if you are unsure of your major, Pitt and Penn State offer more choices. If you are worried about perceptions, a lot of people feel, rightly or wrongly, that private colleges and honors programs are “better”. So it points at Drexel, based on the very little information you’ve given.

But only you can actually make the decision. There is another thread, which wgcmp101 also posted on, where somebody is trying to choose between Pitt and Drexel, and we recommend Pitt. But the circumstances are different and that’s the danger in asking for opinions here. You’re the one who knows the complete picture.

pamom, is this because of cooping or difficulty in scheduling classes? If it is cooping I thought the tuition remained the same, but was spread out over a longer period. (I could be wrong about this; it’s been awhile since we visited.)

I’ll just toss out that while the concept of cooping appealed to my S (in engineering), he felt that the prevalence of it at Drexel adversely affected the campus climate. The fact the roommates, club members, etc. come and go can make it a little harder to connect and/or make close friendships with other students (though I’m sure it’s possible). (My S has been able to find interesting work (both on campus and an OOS internship) at PSU.)

I don’t think this is true of engineering at Drexel’s level.</if>

whydoicare, I just saw your “middle” comment. I think Pennquack’s SAT data is irrelevant because of the holistic approach to admissions that the ivies, SHC and, I would assume, the other honors schools take. The number of Rhodes, Marshalls and Truman scholarships at Pitt is certainly impressive.

drexel 5 year plan is more expensive than 4 year plan even though tuition is spread over 5 years, because you still have to pay room and board, and fees for an extra year. http://www.drexel.edu/undergrad/financing/break-down/</a></p>

if that’s all the responses, I’m going to choose UPark by midnight
