Drexel or Temple

I'm planning on majoring in mechanical engineering, but could easily see myself switching to a multitude of other majors.

Drexel will cost me 10K to 15K more per year than Temple, and I'm starting to doubt whether the increase in price is worth the increase in academic strength.

What are your opinions on the two schools and which one I should attend?

Unfortunately, I didn't get into any of my reach schools and these are the two realistic choices that I am left with.

Have you visited both? For better overall quality of life and campus feel I like Temple much better. Many of the students at Drexel seem to be very unsatisfied with the administration teachers etc. and campus life. My girlfriend goes to Penn across the street and when I was looking at colleges I looked at both Temple and Drexel, and in my opinion (please take it lightly) I rather attend Temple. I was more impressed with what they had to give and just how it felt. A few friends of mine go there and love it both academically and socially. But in the end its up to you. 10-15k is a lot of money also. Good Luck

I wouldn't pay $40-60,000 more over four years for Drexel.

I'm a junior, so I haven't applied to any schools yet, but I have to say, my pick is Temple (it's actually my first choice overall, so I'm planning on applying early).

I've visited both, they both have nursing (what I want to major in)...And I liked Temple a lot better. The feel of the campus and the atmosphere there is a lot nicer, the campus is more contained, students were out and about and seemed happy. We also talked to a bunch of students who really liked the school.

I've visited both twice, and both have their positives and negatives.

What it comes down to is this: is the quality of an engineering degree from Drexel(compared to Temple) worth more than the extra money it would cost?

What are my job prospects with an engineering degree from Temple? What about grad school? Will I be competitive as long as I maintain a high GPA and possibly do research/internships as an undergrad?

Wow, this forum moves MUCH faster than the individual college forums.

I'd appreciate any more advice. I've literally gone back and forth on this so many times in the last few weeks and I have to make a decision soon so that I can send my deposit in on time.

Not sure about Temple but my son is interested in Drexel (Chemical Engineering) because of the co-op. So you have to factor that into the financial equation - the fact that you'll have 18 months of real work (i.e., $$ income) during your college years.

Dan D

I am a Philadelphia native, so I have a handle on both schools. If it were me I would choose Temple, except that the co-op program might land you a better job after completing Drexel. If you plan on staying in Philadelphia for the long-haul I might argue that Temple is better respected.

I'd say Drexel if you're really confident on being mech engineering. Otherwise, go to Temple.

Though University City is nicer than north philly

Even the students at Drexel dispise the campus from what I have heard. Also I hear the coops are becoming harder and harder to get due to the economy, and most of them are unpaid. I’d take temple, but I am not an expert.
