My daughter just checked her portal and was accepted into the Music Industry/Business program! She had a 3.39 gpa and submitted a portfolio. TBH I am shocked she got in because the program is so competitive. She got just over 35k in merit. Now we have some very tough decisions to make. Its more than we wanted to spend but its suppose to be a great program.

PS we are from PA.

D applied for BS Psychology…accepted for BS Education. $8100 annual merit. Hmmm. I vaguely remember her application asking for a second choice major.

I guess the grant piece would not be considered merit. So then merit would be 17k.

I don’t know why my daughter got so little. Loyola Chicago gave her 21,000 a year, so this kind of puts it out of the running with their sticker price.

I’m genuinely curious to know what the merit tiers for Drexel are at this point bc it seems to me like they are (generally, anecdotally) awarding less than they did 2-3 years ago for students of similar caliber.

Our son is going to accept his EA offer, I’m 99% sure, but he’s getting less than half the merit at Drexel that he’s been offered at at least 4 other schools. When he applied, in reading thru old threads, really got the impression that they weren’t stingy with merit; But now I’m wondering…has anyone this year gotten more than 20k?

We did do a financial aid appeal in January and provided them with copies of the $30k + merit offers he has received from other schools but were denied. Seems like we are out of options.

Then I won’t bother appealing. Yikes.

Maybe we were too soon though? I have this nagging fear that we should have waited until after regular decision to appeal.

I would do it if I were you. Nothing to lose. I will say that although they didn’t budge the process was painless. Good luck

What was the process.

I reached out to the admissions counselor he was assigned and let her know that his merit offer was not at all in line with what he’d been offered at other schools with comparable admission rates. She was very understanding. A few days later called and asked me to email copies of the other offers. Also wanted a copy of his updated gpa (which had improved since he applied). About six weeks later got an email saying their review was complete and that they weren’t increasing his merit. So all in all, a few emails and a few phone calls. Not a huge commitment. Just no happy ending haha.

Son received a total of $25,600/year in merit — $21.6K (AJ Drexel) and $4K (Westphal Portfolio Scholarship). I don’t know how common that is, but they definitely go over $20K in some cases.
