Hey, I a few questions about drexel rotc.
1) How many hours a week are you involved in rotc activities (without counting the military science courses)
2) Does drexel offer 3 and 2 year scholarships for? If so, are they competitive (how many students compete for them and how many are awarded)?
3)I may be enrolling in UPenn this fall or next spring, can I start rotc in the spring?
4) Are there a lot of UPenn students involved or mostly drexel?
5) Are rotc courses tuition free?
Thanks in advance!

So to answer your first question - it varies. It definitely varies on your year in the program, the activities in which you are involved, etc. If we exclude just lecture you have one three hour lab on thursday (where you learn about tactics) and PT twice a week for an hour each. Aside from that, if you’re on color guard you have a variety of color guard details which you don’t necessarily have to do, but should participate in. Sometimes you have to do details, like clean the armory, etc and that can vary depending on who’s assigning it and what the task is.

Drexel offers all year scholarships - in GRFD, STEM and I believe nursing but we didn’t have any nursing scholarships this year. They are pretty competitive, but if you’re good at PT and on the cadre’s good side you’re most likely eligible for them. Obviously you have to pass DoDMERB and keep your grades up, but if you’re near the more elite members of your class you’ll be fine.

You can start ROTC in the spring provided you’re a freshman or sophomore. If you’re a junior you have to go to LTC at Ft. Knox or basic, but that’s contingent on a case-by-case basis and you should probably talk to cadre about that. As a Penn student you’d do ROTC activities with the rest of the Drexel battalion. However, as a Drexel student, the amount of personnel in the BN during spring/summer term dwindles significantly as that is when Drexel ROTC kids do their co-op.

Obviously because Drexel is the home school it is mostly like Drexel. However, there are a smattering from St. Joe’s, LaSalle, and Penn. The Penn kids are cool, there are five cadets (I’m pretty certain) from Penn.

I’m not certain about your questions about tuition free courses. They all count for credits, so you’re still paying for them in terms of tuition. If you have any more questions about the program feel free to message me privately and I’ll answer them to the best of my ability.

Hooah!

Also, I don’t know if you meant NROTC or AROTC or AFROTC. So, I answered based upon with what I am familiar, and that is as a cadet in the AROTC (Army) program.
