Drexel U vs SUNY Binghamton (Engineering)

Hello,

I got accepted to both of these institutions. I still have 15 more decisions to receive but I am trying to narrow down colleges as I receive the letters to avoid a headache later.

The two types of engineering that I am interested in are Chemical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. Drexel has both fields (I got accepted into Chemical Engineering), while Binghamton has one (I got accepted into Bioengineering).

Drexel has a strong co-op program, while Binghamton doesn't. Co-ops are great because of the money and experience.

Drexel is in a city, while Binghamton is suburban. I am leaning toward suburban because I want a slower paced atmosphere.

The major thing that set them both apart is cost. Cost is a major factor to me because my efc is 23380 and I do not have it. Drexel's cost of attendance is $46,155. I have a renewable merit scholarships adding up to $14,000. If I do not receive any other scholarships, I basically have to come up with over $30,000 a year out of pocket. Binghamton's cost of attendance is $18,126. Although it is unlikely that I will receive any need based scholarship from them, it is still more affordable.

I would like to know based on your knowledge and opinion, which school would be better choice for me. I plan on going to graduate school after college.

Thank you.

Responses are greatly appreciated. :)

Bing is the much better option here. Why are you even considering Drexel in this case?

Binghamton is an overall stronger college. That’s all I can tell you. Besides, you’d end up paying about 60k more for your undergrad studies if you choose Drexel over Binghamton. And I don’t think co-op is really worth the 60k.

Thank you. I thought the same thing, and I wanted to make sure. I was unsure if the co-op opportunities put Drexel over Binghamton. ^.^
