Drexel vs OSU - Columbus

I've been accepted to both schools. Drexel has offered me a scholarship. I prefer Ohio State; however, Drexel is much closer to home and they offer three co-ops in five years, which seems to be unique to this school. The engineering department isn't as highly ranked as the one at Ohio State, though.

I'm facing a dichotomy. Go to Drexel, get three outstanding co-ops, and get a job in industry or go to Ohio State, maybe get one co-op if I can, but be happier. At Drexel, they also give you an opportunity to co-op abroad, which I found very enticing. They also seem hell-bent on getting all of their students a co-op. I don't know if the same is true at OSU. OSU seems to offer more in the way of undergraduate research, which is important to me, as I'm also considering pursuing medicine shortly after working in industry for a number of years. Before that, though, I'd like to get my Master's degree.

Is there any other school in America that gives students the opportunity to do three co-ops (each one six months. and each one earning me ~$700-800 per week)?

What is the Cost of Attendance for each school? Are both schools affordable for your family?

Both schools are affordable for me.

Any help?

I’m not sure what happiness or its absence has to do with either of these schools. Certainly one should value happiness, but are you saying that you would be miserable at Drexel. Nor am I sure what proximity to home has to do with anything. Could you explain? These are the kinds of questions that need to be answered if one is to understand where a student might fit better.

I don’t see myself being very happy at Drexel, although their Chemical Engineering program is good; plus, you get to go on three co-ops, as opposed to one at Ohio State. I feel that I would be much happier at OSU. As far as proximity to home, I was just saying that I would be able to visit home on weekends, if I chose to. At Ohio State, that isn’t really an option.

In my opinion, there is no clear choice for YOU given the info you’ve provided. In my opinion, YOU are going to have to figure this one out because you seem really confused about what you want and what qualities in a school would be best for you.

Here’s one checklist for helping you to decide between colleges:

<a href=“USA Today Educate - Teacher & Student Resources & Guides”>USA Today Educate - Teacher & Student Resources & Guides;

You might clarify your thinking about these two by making two columns OSU and DU on the right side of the url above and use a +, 0, and - to assess each school by each question. You could double the points for each question of particular value to you. Then add them up and see if there’s a clear favorite.

OSU wins that checklist by far.

University of Cincinnati has chemical engineering and an in place co-op program that is quite good.

Do you have your answer then, OP?

I think I do. Thanks, jkeil911.

Then MY job here is done B-)
