I am really struggling to figure out for my son which is better academically? Drexel vs Rutgers for Biomedical engineering with Pre-med. His ultimate goal (at least right now) is MD.
I am trying to decide on factors other than tuition. I am Nj so from tuition perspective Rutgers of course is better. but, in case he decides to move to other engineering and decides to do MS instead of MD.. I am thinking drexel's coop is huge factor to consider.

Would love your thought on this pls?
I posted same question on drexel page as well.

On a curriculum strength point of view, Rutgers Engineering is definitely stronger in every aspect when compared to Drexel. The only attractive thing about Drexel’s program is possibly easier for your son to find a co-op during his undergraduate study, which might guarantee a long term job. But in terms of building solid foundation for an education, Rutgers is the way to go. If only Rutgers didn’t have such large student population competing for the same job, I think Rutgers would be perfect. There are significant amount of students at Rutgers doing Biomedical Engineering all hoping to get into med school (somewhere between 200 students per class year), and the truth is not every single one of them will be able to get into med school. It’s simply too competitive for Rutgers itself. I’ve seen more people getting into a medical school studying just what they need in a liberal arts college instead of trying to score an admission through the bio med engineering route.

Xu701zero is right. So many people study Biology or Biomedical and get lower GPA than those who major in humanities. It is understandable ince these two majors are very hard. Medical schools LOVE humanity majors. They have enough people applying with Bio degrees. Check out this forum about pre-medical and see what medical students are talking about.

Medical schools are very competitive, 45,000 apply every year and only 17,000 get in.

I agree with the previous comments about pre-med. My friend asked me what major should her son choose for pre-med. I said, “just make sure he gets a high GPA”. Rutgers is a good school, but the downside is that it attracts a large number of good students. It is very competitive.
