Drexel vs Temple Engineering

All the professors are from drexel

Does the program not being accredited put me in a bad position? However if it were to get accredited while I’m still in school or maybe a year after,'would that harm or help me in anyway?

yes, it’s harder to compete with grads from accredited programs. The accreditation certifies the curriculum and the depth of each class, so that the curriculum can’t be watered down depending on the school’s or the students’ level. However, Temple is a State University (semi-public), so it’s likely to be accredited after a while - but it can take long, expect a minimum of 5 years from the date the 1st year class started. How long was the program started? If it’s 1-2 years ago, it’s unlikely to be accredited on time, however if it’s 5+ years ago you should be fine.
What’s the cost [(tuition+Room and board) - (scholarships&grants] to you? How much debt would you have to take on for each program?
You should also email the Head of the Dept to ask your questions (for example: Dear Professor …, My name is… and I am an admitted student who just got off the waitlist. I am hesitating between two programs and I was wondering whether you may be able to give me some placement numbers, both for sophomore and junior summer internships, paid or unpaid, and for jobs? Thank you very much. Sincerely, …)

But if it were to get accredited later on would that help in anyway? It started Fall 2013.

And I may take your advise on emailing the head(the head started the BME program at Drexel and came to Temple and started it there last Fall).

Also my plan is to defiently go to grad school at a more reputable engineering school either around here or on the west coast.

Debt wise Drexel is actually $10000-$12000 more a year depending housing and whether I am on co-op and etc.

Do email the head of the Dept.

What’s your deadline to make a decision?

Considering costs, I’d be tempted to advise TU, but 4 years from now, the program may not be ABET accredited and I don’t know whether that may pose a pb with grad school admission? Although you could certainly apply to Penn State and Pitt - there are WAY worse schools than those :)

The deadline is this upcoming Wednesday. And honestly my only concern now is the ABET accredited program…didn’t think about that till now.

And yes penn state and Pitt are both good schools for bioeng as well(thinking grad school)

And if anyone can enlighten me about this ABET issue that would be great! I’m just hoping it doesn’t have too large residual effects.

Did you make a decision?

Yes I decided to go to temple, thanks for asking!

Congratulations! :)
