drinking at liberal arts colleges

I'm interested in LAC's for the most part but I'm worried about how centered the social scenes are on drinking? are there any schools with a less-pronounced drinking scene? for every college i hear that the social scene stinks for non-drinkers. I don't mind laying low/studying on friday/saturday nights, I just want to make sure i'll be able to make friends wherever I end up.

so far i LOVE bowdoin, hamilton, bates, colgate ect. any input?

Colgate has a decent drinking scene, but no pressure to drink. If you want to it’s there and most people do drink as they get older.
Hamilton is same story

I don’t know about the others, but I wouldn’t worry about it. Not everyone drinks and at Liberal Arts Colleges it’s usually not a big deal if you don’t

Might I suggest William and Mary. It’s in Virginia, but it has the feel of a Northern liberal arts college. (Also Colgate was my second choice after WM, and Hamilton my 3rd, they’re all essentially the same school).

I attend ASU so I feel educated on the manner… :p

I wouldn’t worry, there are tons of people like you (like me) who aren’t big drinkers. So there’s that, and understand that its all about how you handle the situations. If you decide not to drink, most people get it and appreciate it really and the only time you may feel isolated is when you make yourself feel isolated. Join clubs!!

Every college has successful drinkers and non-drinkers.

I wouldn’t worry about it. Drinking in college is your own personal decision. Every school has an element of partying - some more than others but, on a college campus, you will find all kinds of people. If you don’t want to drink, you aren’t the only one. Do not discourage yourself from going to a LAC because you are worried about partying. I think state schools have even more drinking than smaller LAC because of sports and the size.
