Drinking at W&M?

Hello everyone,

I am thinking about transferring to W&M (looking at a few other schools, too). Does anyone know how bad the partying is there? Are there groups that don't party? The partying at my current school is driving me nuts. I love it academically, and I'm doing great, but I am just really frustrated. Also if anyone has transferred to W&M and has any advice that'd be great. Thanks everyone in advance!

Hey there, I am transferring to W&M for Spring 2005; I currently go to the #9 party school in the nation (UMass); I think we have a lot in common!

The party scene, from what I have learned from friends and read does not exist. I hear you CAN find a few things going on, but you have to know where to look, or have friends in the right places.

William and Mary is a school to read, learn, and read; I doubt the word party fits anywhere.

On the bright side, there are a few area schools (CNU, Norfolk State, VCU, etc.) which probably have a lot going on their campuses; they are only maybe at maximum 30 minutes away; there is always Richmond, VA as well.

Good luck with transferring to W&M!

AS.

That sounds great! I would probably try to transfer for Fall 06 since I kind of want to try to finish my first year out at my current school. It would be so nice to be around people who are at college to learn, not to drink so much that they throw up (it's a goal for some people). Good luck to you, too! :)

You can find places to drink at W&M.

That said, there are a lot of people who don't do that. Not that everyone studies on Friday and Saturday night (though some people definitely do).

I am rushing next semester so I can find someplace to party regularly.

Know the VA laws for underage possession of alcohol - one of the very few states that considers it a class one misdemeanor. Plus, state school means real police on campus.

I just wanted to update and say I am going to W&M in a few weeks to talk to admissions people (making an appointment).

Let us know how the visit was...what students say...what the campus is like etc! I'm looking at it as a transfer option. :)

P.S. Williamsburg police are jerks. Jerks I tells ya!

Only college police I've ever known to bust a DRY party for 'too many people'.

Yeah the police have been known to park outside of frat parties and arrest kids who come out of them

We be drinking a bit, studying a lot......................I live in Monroe. There are students that NEVER come out of their room except to go to class. Then we have those who can party hardy and still get great grades. William and Mary does not have a predominant pary scene, but it is there......................mostly in the greek scene. Most of my buddies do not drink but that's cool by me. We have a great time regardless. I have gone to some mixers and had a few, no pressure to drink here though.

You live in Monroe? It's a small world . . .

Dupont is cooler than your dorm...

new campus is lame =P

/Taliaferro 04-05

Word.

Wait, who am I kidding. Taliaferro sucked.

Will do sara306, I will update next week. I am going this Tuesday.

sara306 - The trip to W&M was great. I really loved the campus, I saw more of it than I have ever seen before. It looks like a basic 45% admissions chance, with the higher the GPA the better. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks! :)

I dont know where you got 45% from but the acceptance rate to WM last year was certainly below 30%, for first year admissions that is

Bjcdb

I was thinking the same thing, but maybe SEW05 was referencing the transfer acceptance rate since they were complaining about partying "at their current school". I have no idea what the transfer acceptance rate is.

I was talking about transfer acceptance rate. Obviously the freshman rate is much lower.
