I thought this was a pretty sad and unfortunate event.

they deleted the other thread?

bball87, aside from the fact that there are already half a dozen threads on this topic, I believe at this time it is premature to say "he drank himself to death." This is very tragic, but the actual cause of death has not yet been determined.

CHARLOTTESVILLE -- A Cornell University freshman visiting the University of Virginia last weekend died from consuming too much alcohol, an autopsy found.

(student's name), who was found dead in a U.Va. dorm room Friday morning, died from "alcohol intoxication," said Arkuie Williams, the central district administrator for the medical examiner's office in Richmond.

Williams said (student's name)'s death was deemed an accident. Williams would not disclose (student's name)'s blood-alcohol level.

(student's name), 19, was visiting a friend at U.Va. while on spring break from Cornell. His grandfather, (name), said his grandson had been out "partying" the night before he died. (Grandfather's name) also said his grandson had struggled with alcohol problems in the past.

(Student's name), who was from St. Louis, was a computer science and electrical engineering student. He was described as a brilliant student with a knack for computers and electronic gadgetry. He also was a marathon runner in high school.

(Grandfather's name) said his grandson "had accomplishments out of this world. He had a tremendously high IQ. . . . Anything he touched, he did extremely well."

Simeon Moss, a spokesman for Cornell, said counseling services would be offered at (student's name)'s residence hall.

"He seemed to be a very popular student here," Moss said.

On a news program the other night (Dateline?) I saw the author of "Smashed" being interviewed. It's an autobiography of a 24 yr. old woman, and her experience with college drinking. Needless to say she's now on the wagon, and promoting her new book which is apparently doing quite well. I wish there'd been a book like that written when I was in college.
