Drinking vs. Pot

So... in my home/community smoking pot is a taboo subject and my parents would freak out if they ever found out I had, whereas drinking (with moderation) is considered pretty normal. I know pot is completely illegal but what are the arguments for this and /or for why people consider it more dangerous than alchohal? It seems to me that getting a little stoned once in a while is less dangerous than getting drunk .

Pot > beer. We usually get a 6 inch blunt and smoke it in a car, driving around campus with the steroes blaring. Windows closed of course, lol. So much better than drinking.

As for which is more dangerous, I think it's been proven that pot is less harmful to your body than beer, and the effects are certainly lighter, meaning you won't be stumbling around blabbering stupid **** while you're high. I could be wrong, though.

pot is much less dangerous than getting drunk. hands down.

Drinking costs less. Beer makes you fat. Being drunk is more fun.

Pot and underage drinking are both illegal. Both potentially can cause you to engage in other, more risky behaviors.

Tons of reasons to do one, both, or neither. Whatever.

Pot is clean and chill. Beer (reasonably price beer) and liquor are dirty and crazy.

ummm, pot is pretty dirty. It smells like crap and when you wake up in the morning there is nothing worse than the taste in your mouth.

You should brush your teeth every night anyways. After I get done sharing a blunt with a couple guys I atleast wash my mouth out.. when I get back home atleast.. having their lips on the same blunt is sick, but it's gotta happen if you're gonna chill with people.

Alcohol tastes like crap going down. Makes me gag. At least the experience of smoking is enjoyable (some would say).

The advantages of marijuana over alcohol are numerous. One thing that distinguishes the two, however, is their levels of social acceptability (obviously) beyond legal status. While alcohol has been drunk in many forms since the foundation of America, sometimes because it was the only safe drink to consume, marijuana has arisen through a fog of rumour, suspicion, and political hype.

There are a myriad of novels on the topic, one of the most popular being The Emperor Wears No Clothes, by Jack Herer. I'm not going to go into too much detail, but essentially the fact is there are a lot of lies out there, and a lot of unknowns about marijuana. Ultimately, though, it is both healthier and safer, especially with the advent of vaporizers.

I remember when people used to say smoking marijuana isn't cool, but I think it is now :) Frats around here have so much of it, and everyone does it. It's a great way to make new friends, you know, just downing a blunt with em :)

Drinking isn't anything special, because it's not as forbidden in a way, you know? Anyone can do it.. same applies for pot but I don't know, I see something better in it than alcohol.

And my god alcohol is ****ing disgusting to take down..

marijuana healthier than alchohol?

it depends on how much alchohol you drink. if you drink 8 beers a day, yes it can be a lot worse than smoking a joint everyday.

i dont think comparing drinking and smoking pot is very reasonable, unless you look at quantitatively how "bad" each is compared to the other.

Smoking anything is bad for your lungs. I'd say getting high is worse for you than getting drunk because of the smoking factor--not the pot itself.

^
???
the pot's wats causing the high

I think jimbob was referring to the carcinogens inhaled when the pot is smoked. From what I read, it seemed that he meant the carcinogens, rather than the THC, is what is harmful.

^Yes, that is what I mean. Inhaling any smoke is going to hurt your lungs. Same reason you shouldn't eat black-burnt food--gives ya stomach cancer.

it depends on your location, in california, especially the bay area, pot and alcohol are, by most people, thought as equals, but the divide is on those of our parents generation. people who grew up during the 60's and think, "damn, too bad we didn't win" are more tolerant, while more conservative, "good riddance" types think pot is evil.

Even a "frequent" smoker smokes so little pot that the effect on the lungs is negligable. Staying high all day would only be like smoking a couple ciggarettes a day.

Both are stupid.

^Lol don't knock it till you've tried it. If you've tried it...my bad, your loss.

It seems to me that if someone gets high twice a month and someone else gets drunk twice a month, there aren't significant health risks involved with either necessarily (assume the pot smoker doesn't smoke pot all their life and doesn't need to smoke that much to get high) but more of a risk with alcohol (assuming you're drinking to get drunk )
