Only if you think you can handle drinking.

I would say to wait, but ultimately it’s your choice. Don’t do it just because everyone else is doing it; do it when you feel that you’re responsible enough to behave responsibly. I mean, I’ve never tried alcohol before and neither have most of my friends, so it’s not that unusual to wait. Will I wait until I’m 21? Eh. Maybe… maybe not.
Just be careful if you decide to do it.

You can wait, sure, but the likelihood that you will make it all the way to 21 is pretty low. If you want to drink, do so responsibly. Contrary to what some people in this thread have asserted or implied, it doesn’t make you a bad or immoral person. Really. That just doesn’t make sense. It’s a personal choice, and it only affects you, so it’s not immoral. If, however, you were to drink and drive (in other words, be irresponsible), then you’d be crossing into the realm of being a bad and/or immoral person. In summary, recreational, safe drinking is fine. Just try not to get caught.

Or move somewhere with a reasonable drinking age.

Like here, but most people start drinking at around 15.
I personally don’t drink because I don’t see the point; it tastes gross, it can lead to you doing things you wouldn’t normally do and it can cause health problems. This is, however, a personal choice and I’m not bothered about other people drinking, although most people on CC have a lot to lose if they were caught, so I wouldn’t reccoment risking it.

Do what YOU think is right. If you need people on a forum to make this decision for you then maybe you’re not ready to drink. You’re the only one who has control over your choices.

Brb moving to Europe

Or just ignore our precautions and drink anyway.
It’s totally worth it.
Totally.
It’s like you are refusing to accept that it is dangerous and illegal and that bad things can often.
That parties that drinking happens at arent all full of good people.
You may cure cancer but that doesn’t make underage (And especially in highschool) right.
If you asked this as a college freshman my answer would be different-- but for now it’s just a rotten idea.

Just don’t let it cloud your judgement!

Yeah, cause as soon as you become a college freshman it’s not “dangerous” (lolwuteven) or illegal anymore.

The argument that because it was legal to drink there made you immune to punishment is hilarious. Never mind that fact that you didn’t have anything.

Oh my God this is great.

Sirius, may I ask what justification you have for drinking’s not being “right,” underage or otherwise? Honestly, give me some sort of moral foothold. It sounds to me that you’re simply spouting things you’ve heard in church or something. Please.

^I guess breaking the law.

^ Since when did legality define morality? That’s an inherently close-minded view. If something’s legal status determined its “goodness” or morality, then why has the drinking age been changed in the past? Did drinking at 18 used to be moral and all of a sudden became immoral, simply because imperfect legislators defined it to be so? Better yet, does morality change depending on the country you’re in? The first question is an extemely weak argument to authority, and the second is no argument at all. I want some solid reasons why drinking, by itself, is immoral in any way, shape, or form.

Also, alcohol kills Brain Cells. And one of the main reasons the law was changed was because it made it safer for people to drink. Just ask a doctor. Plus, if you start drinking and your under 21, please carry garlic in your pocket or brush your teeth regulary OR ELSE! :P

No, drinking alcohol does not kill brain cells. That’s a silly myth that has somehow persisted despite solid scientific evidence to the contrary. Take a look:

[Does Drinking Alcohol Kill Brain Cells?](http://www2.potsdam.edu/hansondj/HealthIssues/1103162109.html)
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/23/health/23real.html
[Alcohol Does Not Kill Brain Cells](Alcohol Does Not Kill Brain Cells)

If used irresponsibly over a long period of time, it can lead to impaired neurological function. However, there is no evidence that even in excess it kills brain cells. In addition, drinking in moderation and even the occasional binge is provably healthy.

kypdurron, what evidence do you have that the drinking age of 21 makes it safer for people to drink? Surely not the scores of kids at your high school who drink anyway, many of whom do so irresponsibly? A look at countries with lower drinking ages shows that alcohol is used more responsibly in said areas because kids learn how to use it and aren’t encouraged to binge because it’s always available. Just think: if alcohol were legal at 16, teenagers wouldn’t have to conceal their alcohol usage in dangerous ways (like fleeing a party by driving drunk).

OP, it is illegal, so if you get caught, you’ll get into trouble.

@Smaximus
- Okay on the first thing with Brain Cells, you got me there. See CC does teach you things!
- Maybe because 21 have more common sense (as weird as that might be) plus Beer can still negitively empact your brain the younger you are.
- Really that argument stinks. Just because some people do things illegal doesnt mean we should lower the laws because it would help them.

To piggy back on the other CCers, obviously drinking is bad and has gotten me into a ton of trouble. This is something that you should stay away from, I’m talking with experience. Students these days don’t have any common sense and are simply living for the thrill. People know drinking constantly is bad for them, but many think that drinking is the only way to have fun and enjoy themselves. The best way to avoid the urge/curiosity is just to veer away from these events that involve alcohol.

The US just has a drinking age of 21 to be different, you like to think you have the moral/legal high ground on the rest of the world…
