Can any of the Chicago area parents/students give me a realisitic estimate of driving time from Chicago to UA? Google maps puts it at a little over 12 hours and I am wondering how accurate that is depending on stops and sustainable speeds.

It’s really more like 10.5-11 easily, that’s with the normal refuel and fast food stops. Was around 8 hours to Huntsville, esp. if you can use the new 355 extension and avoid some of the Chicago traffic, and now that I-80 is pretty much resolved. It’s an easy (non-eventful drive.)

AL34,

Thanks! Do you take 65 down?

Yes, you would take I-65 down to B’ham and the take I20 towards Tuscaloosa.

Definitely I-65, the IL-1S route may have fewer actual miles but it can be really slow. Did it once returning from Fla. and never again.

Thanks! Looks like my son and I will be driving down a week from Thursday for our first visit.

11ish hours is correct as is the advice to just stick to I65. I hope you love as much as my S did/does.

Roll Tide!

Can I ask what school your sons from?

Im in Chicago and am looking to apply in November
