Are there any other Formula One racing fans here that are watching Drive to Survive on Netflix? My wife had no interest in F1 previously, but after watching Drive to Survive she’s hooked. It’s a well done show, though it certainly manufactures some rivalries with its creative editing. I recommend it if you’re looking for a new show to watch. There are now 5 seasons…so it’s a 50 episode commitment.
My husband loves the series. There happened to be Formula One racing in Austin when we there in October, so he and my BIL attended the qualifying races (it was my BIL’s 60th birthday that day!). I’m glad BIL could go because I am not interested in racing at all.
Love the show!
Our family LOVES this show. It became our almost nightly family show last year, and we are enjoying the new season. Our son is very into Karting and races at the weekend - you would be amazed to see all the kids who are into this and inspired by the show!!
I’ve been an F1 fan since Senna was racing for McLaren. Michael Schumacher was my favorite driver since his Benetton years. I was associated with Red Bull for over a decade so I’m all about Red Bull racing now.
My husband, son, SIL as well as my 92 year old mother, are huge F1 fans. Hubby and son have been attending US and Montreal races for years, and now Austin; it helps that my daughter lives in Austin.
This evening my mother called me to complain that we didn’t remind her that it was a race weekend. She only missed a bit of Practice 1 this morning, so I think she will survive!
A friend told me about this show when it first came out. I totally enjoy it. You can see that they add drama where it might not be to the same degree in real life. But it is fun to see the clips they show and here the people involved in Formula 1 talk about their sport.
I have been a fan of F1 since I saw the first Long Beach Grand Prix race in 1976. It changed to a CART race years later. The organizers hadn’t figured everything out that first race. The stands right behind the pit area required a ticket but the security people and ticket people just left their stations when it was lunch break. So, my buddy and I were able to move against the flow of people and get into that area and got an amazing view of things.
It’s a great show to introduce people to F1 and get them hooked. But once you know more about F1, you realize just how much this show distorts reality.
By the way, races are shown on ESPN and ESPN+.
*** SEASON 5 SPOILER BELOW ***
I started following F1 last year, and one of the biggest controversies was with the 2022 season was with Verstappen’s horrible treatment of his teammate, Checo. In summary, Checo was the entire reason Max won in 2021. And in 2022, there was a moment when Max could have helped out Checo without losing anything for himself, and he came up with a BS reason why he couldn’t, showing just what a type of person he really is. But that was all glossed over in the show.
I totally agree that this was glossed over, but I don’t believe Verstappen is a bad person for not accommodating Checo’s potential positioning in the standings.
H is a big fan of F1 so we started watching the show during the pandemic. One day H would like to go to the qualifying day for Monaco. Verstappen is not my favorite driver.
The Australian Grand Prix is on at 12:55am here on the east coast. I took a chance and placed a wager on George Russell and Mercedes two days before he qualified 2nd and Hamilton qualified 3rd. I’m a Verstappen/Red Bull Racing fan, but not for Australia.
I’m a Mercedes fan, but I have to confess that I am secretly rooting for Alonso! He has had a great start to the season, and I want him to show the young ones that there is still life over 40
Rooting for Checo and Alonso. I recognize Verstappen is a generational talent, but is pretty obnoxious, no surprise given the type of father he has.
Based on the title, I thought it was another documentary on Lowell HS.
Checo is out of the running this weekend, but I would never count Alonso out.
Amazing race to watch! CRAZY ending!!. Good result!
Alonso performed well again. Checo did a nice job coming from 20th to 5th.
