I moved my car awhile back to California from Oklahoma.

But now my driver's license is about to expire...

Just wondering, do I have to take the test again if I already received a license from another state?

It would be just a huge hassle to take the test again and risk failing the test...

Also if I want to register my car in California, is there any rules that I should be aware of?

My car originally was bought in California, so I think it passed the california regulations... anything else to be aware of?

How is the done? I know I goto the DMV and... then I'm confused. Do I have to take my car to another place to get it checked or what? The whole process.

I have no one to help me and my parents are out of the country so I need to figure this out on my own... it's stressing me out.

I went from Cali to Texas, I first went online to see which documents I needed to bring, then I just went to the DMV (they actually call it Dept. of Public Safety here) stood in line (make sure its the right line), filled out some paperwork, then received my new Texas license in the mail a few weeks after. No need to retake the test.

I have changed my license to two different states and once I had to take a written exam again (North Carolina) and the second time I just needed to pay (Wisconsin). There are usually a lot of documents you need to bring. If you live in a dorm, it may be difficult as you normally have to prove year-round residency through a lease or utility bill.

Check out the DOT website for California, you can find all the information you need on their website.

California has stricter standards on a lot of things, so it may not be like go between the "other" 49 states!
Anyway, though, as said, just check online...or call a DMV in CA!
