Driving permit!

Californians. So if you did driver's ed and got that certificate at the end, is there a limited time range as to when you can get your permit before that certificate "expires" (if it ever does...)?

i believe its six months.

Why does your driver’s ed certificate expire? I thought your permit expires after a year.

i dont know. but just take the written test within six months and it doesnt matter anyways.

that seems kind of short to me. if you started drivers ed as soon as you turned 15, and the class lasted about three months, then it could expire before you even turn 16 and are eligible to get your license.

in washington, i am pretty sure it doesnt expire.

I don’t think it expires, i’ll check the DMV site.

I think basically, if you get your certificate you can apply for your permit at anytime after that.
