Driving Test and My License

Driving in circles will help you prepare for the NASCAR circuit while wasting tons of gas. You need to actually get onto the roads often in order to get some good experience.

My test was all in the parking lot.

I won't lie, I didn't have all my hours in when I took my test - I only had a little more than half of what was needed mainly because my dad was a jerk and I hated driving with him (he wouldn't even put on his seatbelt, regardless of it being law). My mom doesn't drive anymore and hasn't for quite a while so she couldn't instruct me. The thing is, I passed my test and I drive with my mom a ton because I now run her on errands and stuff, so that seemed to work. I like driving with someone else in the car and she doesn't care if I blast music or speed a little.

It's been about a month...so did you get it??

lol yeah i got it today...it wasnt that bad, it just depends on where you take it and i took it where its easiest to get it :)

yeah i got it like 2 months ago and it was like 5 minutes and it was a joke because they passed me even with a mistake. well congrats, bet you love the freedom

I got mine August 22, 2005. I parallel parked, did a 3-pointer, and drove around town a bit. It took about 5 minutes and when we pulled into the Board of Education/DMV/Jail the state trooper lady was like, "yeah, I guess you'll pass."

I take mine this saturday @ 8:30 am! And the driving instructor is very very specific, I'm a little nervous.

wow so im gonna really practice cuz you're only allowed 5 errors . . but i've driven a lot before, i'm pretty good now.

She told me the track today and I have to park at Walmart, angle parking, my favorite. Just have to remember to adjust everything, make sure everyone is buckled up, lock doors, hand at 12' o clock when backing out, check front when backing out, hand on back of passenger head seat when backing out, no speeding even though speed limit is @ most 35 mpH due to living in a rural area . . um . . not to pass the cross mark when stopping for a red light, turn signals for every turn, including parking, merge onto road only on dotted line while accelerating, complete stop at red stop signs .. check intersection before going on. . actually turn your head and everything . . constantly check speed . . and yeah besides that I hope I'm good. I don't have to do the Y3 point Turn, although I've practiced it too.

Oh, and if you see a light start to turn yellow, stop if at all possible...

5 errors is actually A LOT. we were allowed 1 provided it wasnt major but the course was easy but 5 is lots. you mean 1 week from today? good luck

^ Yeah thanks, so many little things you have to remember. And we have to have 40 hrs verified before we can get our license, including 10 hrs after sunset. But that's all covered, phew.

5 errors is a lot? In California, we can miss up to 15 points. I think. I have yet to take the license test. I should've gotten it last year...

Yeah me too, but I procrastinated on getting the permit and we had several snow days this year and the instructor herself has a part-time job (there are 2 only for the entire school) and we still have to get 14 in car lessons, around her schedule.

Well I don't think 5 is a lot lolz, the people here are really strict on the errors.

listen to my road test story...................

So i go to the road test one hour earlier and I am the first one there. I am a little nervous and wait patiently. While I am waiting I am praying to God that I pass. Time is passing by, and I start to see people come one by one. The Road Test instructor comes and ask me if I have all my stuff, and I show her, and she leaves. So after about 45 minutes, she comes and tell me its time. I get in the car, do all the stuff, put seatbelt on, check mirrors, start and drive away....She tells me to make a left and so i do. I come to a light and she was make a left...i wait for oncoming to traffic to pass before i make my turn. I am about to make my turn and SHE SCREAMS AT ME AND TELLS ME HURRY UP WILL YOU, YELLING AT ME. so then i go and she tells me to parrallel park, so i do it. while i am parallel parking a car from behind blocks my way and from the front too. I am about to parallel park and she agains yells at me saying WILL YOU HURRY FOR GOD SAKES YOUR HOLDING THE TRAFFIC. At that point i lost my confidence and was 100 % sure i was going to fail. I felt terrified by this woman and felt like crying. Then i parallel park and do it correctly. She then tells me to do a three point turn. As i am doing the three point turn she screams at me and tells me HURRY Up!!. So i come to back to the road test site and she tells me to sign and after i signed a paper she just leaves. So i sit there and wonder did i pass my road test because person didnt even say anything to me. My fathers comes and tells me that i passed my road since I had to sign a paper which you only do if you pass.....SO FOR PEOPLE TAKING THE ROAD TEST DONT WORRY, IT WONT BE BAD, NEVER WILL IT BE WORSE THAN ME

The only thing I know is that the driving laws will change from 15.5 to 16 for temporary and 17 for permanent licensing. I know nothing else, since I have not begun learning.
Yet I need to do so in before next June, or otherwise life might be hard without a car...

You had uh, quite an adventure... I remember editing someone's essay about how he couldn't parallel park correctly twice, and the road test instructor ended up directing him on how to parallel park. In the end, he passed, and he concluded that it was because the instructor believed that he had the ability and intuition to do so.

MARTHA, YOU GOT YOURS THE EXACT SAME DAY AS ME :)
August 22, 2005, I went to the place to get it and I remember waiting in line forever. Then, once I was almost ready to have my number called they took a lunch break:( It was horrible but actually ended up working well because I went out for lunch to and came back relaxed. I waited a while to get my licensce, but now that I have it I love the freedom:)

Yeah the goof told me "How are you supposed to k-turn?" after I did it. I told him. He was like "No no no! That's backwards. Why did you do it backwards. Who taught you that?" I was like "uhh.." He was like "did the manual say that?" I was like " I think." He was like "no way did it say that! Go home and read the manual, it doesn't tell you to do a K-Turn like that." 2 minutes of silence no speaking, for sure I failed I thought...he goes "good job otherwise, go get your license." and just walks off.

Awww. . . what an awful experience :(
But at least you got the license though! Man these stories can be as bad as those roommate stories ..

Maybe she hurried you to see how you deal with pressure like if you had kids in the car someday or if an angry driver behind you was screaming because he needed to get to work? It may have been a test.
