Driving Test

Ok, im taking the behind-the-wheel test in a couiple of days and i was just wondering whether any of you guys had any tips or suggestions. Im 18 and ive never taken the test before (dont ask me why, its along story). What kinds of things should i look out for? Im pretty nervous

Thanks a lot guys

STOP and the stop signs and wait for further instruction!!! I did it perfectly until the last stop sign where I stopped, looked both ways, and drove out the end of the course. Needless to say, the person screamed at me and told me to get out of the car because I didn't stop and wait for her to tell me to go forward.

Use an automatic, smallest car possible, know where the curb is when parrellel parking.

Oh, and 3 minutes is FOREVER, it shouldn't take more than 3 seconds if you go straight in, or 10 seconds if u do the whole reverse thing.

Oh and when you go through intersections actually turn your head when looking both ways....sometimes in an exaggerated way. And um don't lose control of the car ever. And uh when you see a pedestrian on the other end of the sidewalk LET THE PEDESTRIAN THROUGH.

and when you come to a stop, make sure your wheels are straight - as in, if you know you're going to turn left, don't turn your wheels until you start moving again after the stop.

I don't know about the stop and wait for instructions thing - that could screw you if you're sitting there for 10 seconds, which could definitely be marked against you (hell you could get a ticket for it too) for impeding traffic. I say just keep going straight until you're told to turn.

Wait, is this the license test or driving school test? What I said applied for the license test on a little thing they set up (thats how we do it in MD)

Don't go over the speed limit. Thats a huge thing, also make sure you know the area around where you take the test. Make sure you know if there are hospitals, where the lights are, bike routes etc....

don't drive like some of the people on I-95

thanks.

Thanks for the advice guys.........btw, its the license test.

Im a good driver, but i have not taken the 2 hours of behind the wheel instruction that most people take at a driving school and im worried that i will not pass for some minor mistake.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If you happen to get an examiner that knows a friend of yours, it makes it easy. We ended up talking about our mutual friend the whole time, and she really didn't seem to be paying especially close attention to my driving (I was safe though, and showed that I knew what I was doing).

One of the benefits to living in a small town. :)

One of the most important things in your driving test is your attitude. If you appear jumpy or overly nervous, they will probably fail you. Just stay calm and try to drive smoothly and deliberately.

Also, check your blind spot when pulling away from the curb (just one random thing that I forgot to do on my first driver's test).

When you see a green light, don't check both ways, just go.

My idiot tester marked me down for that (I checked very quickly and an instructor told me to do that), but then made me go the wrong way on the testing route.

Exaggerate all head movements and checks. Don't use a manual or modified car.

The BEST way is to go an hour early or so, and simply follow people who are getting tested as well. That way you'll know the route you'll be driving.

I have to agree with that.
when I took my test, she told me in advance when I needed to turn at a corner. make sure you stop completely and then keep going.

Exaggerate any movement so they can tell where you're looking. And make sure your car would pass a complete inspection. They didn't let me take mine because one of my brake lights was broken and I had to go get it replaced before they would let me even take the exam.

Thanks again guys.....one last question.....do you guys think that im at a disadvantage since i have not taken any drivers training with a driving school?

Thanks again guys and any other tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I didn't have any drivers ed at all. My parents and Grandparents taught me, and I was fine.

Red means Go.
Green means Stop.
Yellow means go ahead if no one is looking.

Correction: yellow means speed up.

Correction: Red means go ONLY if there is a cop in sight.

where i live yellow really means speed up. i get ****ed when i'm in a car and i see the driver slow down. i tell them "what the hell? we could have beaten the yellow light."
