My parents and I will be driving to NU for Wildcat Welcome. We'll be leaving from the Baltimore, Maryland area. Has anyone done this trip before? Do you have tips/recommendations/warnings? Thanks so much!

I have, its really not that bad. Ive gotten about 4 speeding tickets driving back and forth from DC/NY to Chicago though, so watch the speed limits. Otherwise, enjoy!

If you are going to be doing the drive often - Get an I-Pass! You can buy one at the Evanston Jewel. (A local grocery store chain.) I know that I-Pass works in IN, NJ and NY, but not sure about MD, but you could - and should- check it out on line to see if it works for PA and the OH Turnpikes.

Of course for me this is gold, because I hate to wait in line, especially to pay tolls, and the open road tolling in IL is nice.

[General Information](http://www.illinoistollway.com/portal/page?_pageid=133,1392755&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL)

Good luck

My dad and I drove from the DC metro area part of MD. It’s not so bad. Get coffee during the Ohio/Indiana stretch, since scenery doesn’t change much and the roads are pretty much entirely (sooo boring).

We have an EZ Pass, which will cover the trip, but thanks for the I Pass information (we weren’t sure whether our EZ Pass would work in IL/IN/OH).

How hard is it to find food/bathrooms along the way (i.e., once outside of the mid-Atlantic)? Did you find yourself driving around a lot looking for places or were they easily reached from the highway?

No problem - especially if you stick to the toll roads. There are rest stops @ every 30-40 miles, and IIRC, before you pull into one, they post how many miles it is to the next one. So you can always play the exciting game, “Who Can Wait For The Next Rest Stop?”. It’s a game you don’t want to lose even once though.

Oh, and be careful making jokes about in-breeding when you pull over in OH and IN… JK :)
