I applied ED to Rice and was deferred. At that point, I had early release on my spring schedule. I changed it to Astronomy, thinking that would look better than early release when they reviewed my app again. I had my counselor make a point on my Midyear School Report that I was taking it. I hate it though, and am considering dropping it at the nine weeks grading period and going back to Office Aid/Early Release. If I get in, and when I send in my final transcript, would Rice not like that and rescind my application or something?

I seriously doubt they'd rescind it, but I'm definitely not sure. Does anyone know what kind of academic lapse would make them deny you admission? I'm sort of thinking of dropping AP Chem (because I really don't like the teacher), or possibly getting straight B's. Does anyone think Rice would mind?

all i know is that they hate Cs and Ds...i read somewhere that it is ok to drop a few classes [because maybe you have an interest in something else or you need to work to help out around the house or you have some problems with the teacher]...i also read that you should write a note telling the people why you dropped...i would write a note. hope that helps!

Bump... anyone know for sure?

I did a little searching and found this:

right, so i called the Rice office of admission and asked if dropping an elective midyear would have any effect on admissions, and the woman said "no, not if it's an elective class." so that's good to know, and i get to drop that nightmare and do something fun like be an office aid for a cool teacher.
