Drop CSU, Enroll CC, 2 years later -> UC??? Questions!!

I currently go to San Jose State University as a freshman and I realize that it is easier for me to transfer from a community college to a UC than from a CSU due to priorities and competition.
The tuition will also be cheaper for me at a community college.

I want to drop San Jose State University after the 1st semester which is around December or January and enroll at a community college for Spring 2012.

I am currently taking Math19 Precal Seminar, Math19 Precal Workshop, English 7 Critical thinking, and English 1A Writing Composition.
Would the units for these classes I take at SJSU transfer over to a community college which will eventually transfer to the UC that I want to go to?
Would I be able to transfer after 1 semester at SJSU or would I have to finish a whole year at SJSU before doing so?
Since I will have finished 1 semester at SJSU, would I have to take 4 semesters (2 years) at Ohlone or just 3 semesters (1.5 years)?

Just looking for some good advices

bumpppppppp

To transfer from a cc there is no set amount of years to take, there is set number of courses to complete, so you could do it in 1.5 years taking a full course load ( maybe less if you do summer classes ). Generally articulation between CC and UC revolves around the IGETC, which is a liberal arts AA degree roughly equivalent to the lower division classes offered at a CSU’s and UC’s. Your CSU credits will count in the CC.

But while it’s possible I wouldn’t recommend this course of action. The IGETC guarantees a transfer spot in the UC system, but in a specific UC, so it depends on what UC you are trying for. I don’t know if it is possible with your schedule, but you are allowed to be enrolled in both a CSU and CC at the same time. I don’t know if it is actually true you have better chances of getting in a UC from a CC, I can’t debunk it, but it seems rather odd. Before withdrawing, consider talking to your councilor about taking a semester (or 2) off to try out CC. I’m not positive about this, but you should drop by your local CC counseling office and ask them as well.

good luck in whatever you decide to do

@JP - I don’t know which is worse. The fact that you gave advice to a 10 month old post or the fact that your advice is filled with incorrect information.
