Drop CSU, Enroll CC, 2 years later -> UC??? Questions!!

I currently go to San Jose State University as a freshman and I realize that it is easier for me to transfer from a community college to a UC than from a CSU due to priorities and competition.
The tuition will also be cheaper for me at a community college.

I want to drop San Jose State University after the 1st semester which is around December or January and enroll at a community college for Spring 2012.

I am currently taking Math19 Precal Seminar, Math19 Precal Workshop, English 7 Critical thinking, and English 1A Writing Composition.
Would the units for these classes I take at SJSU transfer over to a community college which will eventually transfer to the UC that I want to go to?
Would I be able to transfer after 1 semester at SJSU or would I have to finish a whole year at SJSU before doing so?
Since I will have finished 1 semester at SJSU, would I have to take 4 semesters (2 years) at Ohlone or just 3 semesters (1.5 years)?

Just looking for some good advices

You can drop SJSU whenever. The earlier the better (b/c too many units at a four year puts a cap on how many units you can transfer) so I advise you to drop after the Fall semester and transfer to Ohlone/ whatever other CC.

The credit will transfer for your SJSU classes so you can take the next level (i.e. English 1B/C or whatever higher math class). You can transfer after 3 semesters if you have enough units (60) and meet all the transfer requirements or whatever.

You can transfer down to a community college anytime of the year… Looks like you’ll be transferring to a community college for this spring 2012… As long as you didn’t take underwater basket weaving the units should transfer… Best thing to do would get in touch with the CCC you want to go to and talk this over with them.

As far as the time spent at a the CCC all depends on how fast you can knock out the lower divisions classes… time can range typically from 2-3years…

Ultimately it seems like you want to go to a UC school. A lot of CCC have honor programs or contracts with these universities to give priority consideration when applying to them… If your school has such an option you’d definitely want to try do it (as long as its applicable for your major)

Also realize, that even the classes at CCC take time and commitment… if you screw up at at CCC you wont be able to go to any UC… but can still most likely find a seat at some Cal State university.

Also realize, that if you don’t finish your lower division courses in 1.5 years you’ll have to spend 2.5 years at the community college because of the fact that spring transfers are getting slim to none these days.

But ya going to a CC can actually help your chances getting into a UC… its kinda crazy but true.

Good Luck!

CC would definitely be an easier transfer but you should know that CSU–>UC is not impossible. I know a person that transferred from San Jose State to UC Davis and another that went from San Jose State to UC Santa Cruz.

SJSU is a great CSU but to each their own!
