I am currently signed up to take French 4 next year. However, our French teacher is going to be abroad next year and a new teacher from abroad will teach us. So, I wanted to drop French, and doing so will allow me to take AP US Gov't or even independent study in AP Econ. Should I drop French or does 3 years of foreign language look bad for Ivies?

hmm that's a good plan, i'm wondering the same for myself, except replace french w/ spanish in my case...i'd like to see some other feedback on this, but i do know that whatever AP course you replace it with will definitely be weighted more than your french course, thus highering your GPA

Is it AP French 4, and would you have taken the AP test for it?

It really depends on your interest in the French language; if you don't wish to pursue French in college, then I would say go for it! Maybe you could get some core requirements out of the way...

Haha I had this same sort of dilemma my Sophomore year when my French 7 class and my AP World class were the same period, so I dropped French moved AP World into that period and took regular physics as an elective and I do NOT regret dropping French, even though I enjoyed taking it.

moodrets, I can take the AP test after it, but at my school the French program was never a strong point, so I was never sure if I was going to take the AP test. I don't want to study French in college, I really wanted to take German since freshman year, but at that time you had to take a bus to a different school so I just chose french!
