I have a 65% in the class. before this i got a D on the first test and then an F on the second test. I have an excuse though, our honors teacher is REALLY REALLY bad at teaching and she offered the class retakes because 98% of the class got D's and F's.

I think if i work my butt off i can get a B in the class. However, i also considered dropping the class and moving to regular Pre-Calc where i can get an A.

Both are the same, a B in Honors is an A in regular. So both are 4.0

Should i stick in Honors or move to regular pre-calc?

Advantages for moving to regular is that i get more time to self-study AP's, study for SAT and ACT.

Math has never been my forte, i consistently churned out B's in difficult math honors courses while i get A's on everything else.

If it is TRULY a challenge for you drop it, but If I were you I wouldn’t. You could always find a tutor, read the textbook, or purchase a review book. TBH, I’m taking Honors Pre-Calc right now and Its pretty easy (and I’m not even a very good math student–but then again I have a good teacher) You can’t always blame the teacher for your own shortcomings, sometimes you just have to do things yourself. If you pick yourself up, and try hard I’m sure you’ll ace the class.

TIP: Study a bit every day so you don’t have to cram the day before a test.

Remember, many colleges use course rigor as an important part of admissions. Not only that, but in general a B in honors looks better than an A in regular. It’s debatable, but I’d say that’s the general rule for anyone not going to like HYPSM or someplace like that. So stay, work hard, and remember: it’s only the beginning of the school year. There’s no difference between getting tons of As in the beginning and then a D or F later on vs. getting a D or F early on and then getting tons of As later. Be diligent!

If you want to do AP Calculus then I would stick in Honors Pre-calc. I know many people on CC would say “But you can self study!” Since you said math wasn’t your forte (that’s completely ok) I don’t think that self studying would be worth it.

I don’t know what your school is like. I know that in many public schools Honors Precalc prepares you well AP Calc.

If you aren’t PASSIONATE about taking AP Calc then I’d say drop down to A level. It’s OK. ^__^

If you do stick in Honors, then ASK A FRIEND FOR HELP. I find that friends can be good, straightforward teachers. Only thing is that your smart friends might be too busy to help you. Or buy a review book like Princeton Review or Barrons.

I dropped, for the exact same reason you are…

I could either work my butt off for a 79.5, or just go to class and get a 99. Math isn’t my high point either, but I find that I can concentrate on other stuff now :)

I was a sophomore last year when I took honors pre-cal. In freshman year I took geometry and then I went to a community college to take alg 2. Now the class catalog says you need alg 2/trig to take honors, but somehow i was able to get in.

Anyways, I had to make up a lot of ground when I joined the class. During the first month or so, I did terrible, D’s and low C’s each test and what not. It was frustrating. Homework was keeping up till 2 at night and I was on the verge of a mental breakdown. But you know what, I worked my butt of and I ended up with A’s at the end of both semesters.

I’m currently going through the same struggles starting Calc BC, and the teacher doesn’t even teach this year, but if Honors Pre-Cal taught me anything its that you shouldn’t worry if you’re struggling during the first month ago, when your just getting a feeling for the class and the material.

So yea I’d say stick it out and try to weather the storm.

In my junior year I also took pre-calc A level and got a 99%. It was a breeze, but know I’m struggling in AP Calc. I need to ask my friends for help constantly. So there… I wish I took honors pre-calc.

there is almost never a day where i can do my math work in both honors precal and cal bc, but somehow i think ill manage. i cram before tests and it seems to work.

I took H Pre-Calc as a junior last year (it’s a senior level class at my school), and it was HELL because I was the only junior in my class and after first semester grades were sent off to colleges no one cared what grade they got and my teacher just stopped teaching. I had a 70% going into my final exam but I got an A on it and pulled my grade to a B. If you’re going to be the only junior in the class I would HIGHLY recomend you pull out asap unless you’re dying to take AP Calc.
